In the latest of Joe Biden’s history of blunders around the Armed Forces, the American President became verbally abusive when the Coast Guard graduating class refused to clap in response to what seems to have been a back handed insult. After complaining about the lack of applause, laughter ensued, and a few graduates gave a belated round of applause.
“I can only assume that you’ll enjoy educating your family about how the Coast Guard is, quote, the hard nucleus around the navy forms in times of war,” said Biden, laughing at the beginning. It is unclear whether Biden was insulting the popular reputation of the Coast Guard as an unimportant part of the U.S. Armed Forces, despite the fact that – with a shoestring budget – the Coast Guard completes dangerous work in the Caribbean and is responsible for apprehending more illegally smuggled cocaine than any law enforcement branch in the country.
“Wow, you’re a really dull class,” Biden then yelled. “I mean come on man, is the sun getting to you? I would think you’d have an opportunity when I say that about the Navy to clap, but we came here together.” At this point some members of the Coast Guard graduating class began laughing, then prompting a belated round of applause.

I told this story on this forum before, after the Navy was involved in collisions in the Straits of Taiwan. I worked with a guy who was a Coast Guard Academy graduate, and did his 20 year tour. He was good engineer and a good teammate, but he could never advance in the Coast Guard because he was seconded to the Navy as a navigator. The Navy didn’t want to give him back to the Coast Guard because they needed navigators, and he couldn’t advance in the Coast Guard because he never had a command. He left a Lieutenant Commander (O-4), but he had no future in the Coast Guard.
They don’t like you Joe because you are a faux President. They didn’t vote for you Joe, just like most of America didn’t.
Joe will start sending mean tweets as soon as he can find fresh batteries for the TV remote they let him carry around. C’mon man!
Too bad some friends of the grads could not have unfurled a banner in the back: “BeijingBiden, you are a turd” Wouldn’t have lasted long but would have been an awesome photo-Op.

The Navy needed more navigators than they could train and keep? And the Coast Guard had more than they needed? That’s irony tor you!

Just so happens in 1975, Scituate, MA SAR station an ancient lifer 1st class Bosn, named Charlie Glass, told us the story because he was stationed at Chatham as a boot when that happened in ‘52. We all took it as a typical sea story. Then the movie came out a couple years ago and BM1 Glass was exact and spot on (except for the romance sub-story).
I also met the daughter of the author for the movie in a Home Depot in Lisbon, CT. She saw my USCG Retired hat and struck up the conversation.
