An associate of Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz and a key figure into the federal probe against him pleaded guilty Monday to multiple crimes, including sex trafficking of a 17-year-old, according to news reports.
The associate, Joel Greenberg, a former Florida tax collector, pleaded guilty to six federal counts in a case that sparked a federal investigation into Gaetz. The congressman has denied any wrongdoing.

Did you read the article? He pled guilty to 6 federal crimes. Now comes sentencing. Or not.
This is the big scandal that was leaked to the press. If, as they claimed, they have money transfers from Gaetz to the teen, airline tickets, and now a witnesses to testify against Gaetz, he's in deep dung. Gaetz seems willing to fight, but the DOJ rarely loses.

Sounds like a fancy way to smear someone who did nothing wrong. Since they don’t mention how he was “associate” of Gaetz, I assume he once valet parked his car or something.
If they’ve got enough on you to force a plea on child sex trafficking - a crime that comes not only with a lengthy sentence attached to it, but a requirement to register as a LIFELONG sex offender as well - they must have the goods.
The uncomfortable reality is ignorance is not a defense to statutory rape and the crimes associated with it, like the Mann Act. I knew Gaetz was in trouble the night he gave that interview to Tucker Carlson and essentially made the argument in his own defense of: Tucker, she was 17. She was 18.
Really? That’s what you’re going with? Here’s a pro-tip: When you’re a thirtysomething politician, perhaps it’s best to not date teenagers, just in case. If this chick was 17 at the time she was traveling with Gaetz, particularly if she’s a cooperating witness, he’s screwed no matter what age he though she was. That’s not a ‘deep state honeytrap,’ or whatever other ridiculous descriptions are being used. Instead, that’s a guy who should have known better not knowing better.
Assuming any of this is true at all, it could be as simple as this “associate” asking Gaetz if he could do him a favor by covering some travel expenses for him until he can pay him back. In fact, something like that would be a perfect setup for entrapment.
