You can’t go to the naval academy and take your commission in the air force. Your options from Annapolis are the Navy or Marines. And the rank of captain in the air force is not a big accomplishment...junior officer.
It's not common, but it can be done. When I was an Army MP officer in Korea, the USAF Colonel commanding AF OSI activities in the ROK was a West Point grad. I also knew a fellow LT at Ft. Riley who was an Annapolis grad.
Actually, I think you could back in the early 50s and before the US Air Force Academy was built.
The USAF didn’t become a separate service until 1947. At that time, there were a few elements of the US Navy rolled into the Air Force. Not many as most came from the Army Air Force, but a few.
Right now, the US Space Force is made up of mostly US Air Force personnel, but not all. There are opportunities for members of the other services.
