These people aren’t Americans as we think of Americans. They see themselves as global citizens and the American bit is actually somewhat of an embarrassment and inconvenience - but one that they will reluctantly put up with in order to reap the many actual benefits of being an American.
They look down on all of us who don’t get that and who aren’t ashamed to be American. They really don’t like us and aren’t like us.
