Fear-mongering, pure and simple. The higher the mutation rate, the faster the virus denatures itself into irrelevance.
“Some”is simply a weasel word, intended to confuse. The vast, vast majority of mutations are neutral or deleterious to the virus. The true problem with this virus has been, suspiciously(?), that it has a built-in mechanism to limit errors in replication.This is not normally found in other RNA viruses.
