In my capacity as a software consultant, I sometimes help Federal officers with data mining. I can assure you, they give me the absolute minimum information as part of their request.

Even when I ask for more context to speed up the data analysis, they won’t provide. Very close-lipped.

Occasionally they send a letter 6 months later and say “We got a conviction. Thank you.”

There is no point to the existence of police body cams if the public is not allowed to see the videos.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh !!! (don't tell)

I believe it’s NC law that they don’t release footage until investigation complete.

In the meantime, just for fun, we should say the early part of the video shows the officers changing out of their robes and hoods into their uniforms.

Could it be the judge spoke with the investigators and learned releasing the four tapes would compromise the investigation??

How? If releasing the videos to the family is OK then how is releasing them to the general public compromising the investigation?

Depending what the video shows, it might not be good to release it and see people jump to conclusions about what happened based on Al Sharpton’s interpretation of a shaky video.

Instead keep the videos under wraps and watch people jump to conclusions based on the assumption that the authorities are trying to hide something. Good plan. </sarcasm>

The family saw 20 seconds of one tape heavily redacted with faces blurred. There are four tapes they want released to the public. Tapes should be released with the investigators report. Often tapes, taken out of context, are misleading.

“...limit the hoards of BLM and ANTIFA set to descend upon the city.”

Yesterday the news showed a video of a group of the New Black Panther Party on Main Street unfurling their flag looking spiffy in their black uniforms and jack boots.

Actually for a small town police department, they are doing an excellent job keeping control of the situation - so far.

Often tapes, taken out of context, are misleading.

And tapes withheld are believed to be a cover-up. Which is worse?

This isn't going to go away. And hiding the tapes won't help. If the DA says the tapes exonerate the officers then they need to be released. If they implicate the officers then they need to be released as well.

Hard to maintain a narrative when the visuals disprove it.

Hard to maintain a reasonable discussion when people here have no idea what went on..

Listen to what the lawyer for the family claimed to the first judge. The second judge overturned the first liberal judge.
