The family of Ma'Khia Bryant remembered her as a "beautiful" and "sweet" girl and questioned why a Columbus, Ohio, officer shot her.
Her mother, Paula Bryant said: "Ma'Khia was a sweet little girl. She didn't deserve what happened to her."
Police said the video shows a girl, identified as Ma'Khia, trying to stab a person on the ground, as well as another person leaning against a car. Officer Reardon fires his weapon four times, and Ma'Khia falls to the ground, the video shows.
She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
"Ma'Khia was a good student, a good person, and did not deserve what happened to her. We want to remind everyone Ma'Khia was only a 16 year old teenage girl. We are deeply disturbed by the disproportionate and unjustified use of force in this situation," the family said. "And while we remain encouraged by public support and all of the prayers shared with us; at the end of the day, we know nothing will bring back our beloved Ma'Khia. We respectfully request justice for Ma'Khia Bryant."
Ma'Khia was in the foster care system . Cousin Don Bryant declined to comment about why or how long.
Her business education teacher, Austin Owens, said she had big dreams for herself.
"She was going to run the world, and she wasn't going to be ostentatious about it," Owens said. "She was going to do it." She wrote in a five-year-plan assignment that she wanted to go to college and open her own eyelash salon.
Her Facebook profile shows her blowing a kiss at the camera.
The department said police picked up what appeared to be a knife near Ma'Khia's body.
Don Bryant questioned why police did not use de-escalation tactics.
"What's going on that we have to be so trigger-happy these days?"

Wow, 2 falsehoods in one!
...through an eyelash salon, too.
Undoubtedly an honor student, as well.
Who was the girl in pink?
Was it Ole Lucy Brown??
Also, that cop was a rock star.

I must have missed where any of that gave a person leave to stab another. It gives me a bit of hope because I am sure my social credit score is far more impressive than hers which I now understand gives me leave to remove any number of SOBs from this planet.
What?, God says “NO!” Well, I yield to His command.
Yet another funny line I should hate myself for laughing at. I am just so.......insensitive....these days.
Precious darling got up and had to run and close the distance to get to her victim. How would that be self defense?
Don Bryant questioned why police did not use de-escalation tactics.
They did. It was called a center mass shooting. It de-escalated the stabbing right quick.
“Where they add extensions to your eye lashes.”
Wonder if some entramanure will come out with braids.
Please please please PLEASE let me use that!!!
I wanted to point out that asinine statement too. How do you de-escalate people running chaotic scattered everywhere within seconds?
Spreading peace and love at the point of a knife.
The mother says her daughter tried to stab the two girls because she was probably “scared”. Yet she attacks them with the knife as the cops are pulling up! Why would she be so scared of the two unarmed girls at that point? She outweighed them by at least 40 pounds. And she lunged at them. I see no aggressive moves on their part.
I feel bad for the parents of stabby mcstabbertson...
Or, at least they should be in a locked safe when not in kitchen use.
Sixteen year-olds are too young to be in possession of knives.
Owners of knives should be held accountable if one of their knives is used in a crime.
All kitchen knives should be registered. There should be a $200 registration fee for each knife.
Assault-style knives should be banned entirely.
Hi.
If I were the officer, and both parties were armed, I wouldn’t have fired... Bryant family. But that’s just me.
Call me a neanderthal, but don’t call late for dinner.
