Actually they did everything possible to de-escalate. One issue that was mentioned at the start but has disappeared from the narrative is that the cops were immediately surrounded by people trying to prevent his arrest, and the thing that delayed the ambulance was that it couldn’t get through the hostile crowd.
A family member has been on calls like this and the idiots try to impede or destroy the ambulance.

Yep. My kid brother was a paramedic in Miami for years.
They’ve been shot at, verbally/physically harassed, had their vehicle set on fire...you name it. He finally gave it up and moved to the woods, far, far away from any large urban area.
He has since armed himself up to the teeth.
I’ve found wise not to ask his opinion on these kinds of matters.
