Sen. Chuck Schumer pressed President Biden on Friday to use executive action to wipe out up to $50,000 in federal student loan debt per borrower, centering veterans and service members in his latest push.
Flanked by a group of local veterans at Hunter College on the Upper East Side, the Senate majority leader said that too many college graduates — including combat veterans who risked their lives overseas — are shackled with crushing debt that plays an outsized role in their life decisions.

Schumer’s wish is unlikely to come true. Word is that they will forgive up to $10,000 for everyone. Until now, teachers and other special interests have been given special treatment on student debt.
I feel like a real rube for making my kids work their way through college instead of borrowing money and graduating in debt.
You can’t create a tax by executive order.
Separation of Powers.
I think the dems should pay. It was Zero who encouraged and badgered the govt to provide guaranteed loans to people who barely stumbled through high school. And, by creating curiculum, sold them classes that had no practical application in the world of business commerce.
And it’s all a farce. Almost all of these poor unfortunate people ‘saddled’ with student loans can afford a car loan, a cellphone, cable at $200 a month, party money, clothes money, travel money, and a nice place to live, but they can’t pay back the loan that made all the above possible? Balderdash
You have to admit it’s a winning plan:
Make unlimited loans to students
Colleges absorb all the money
Colleges pay profs and admins big bucks
Profs and admins donate to Democrats
The “Big Education” cycle
I know what tuition is today as I have two young adult daughters who have their bachelors degrees. They worked and I helped and their first two years they both went to a local community college and lived at home. But, I will grant that college is more expensive even adjusted for inflation than back in my day. But, part of the cause for that is the student loan program. It’s turned into a food trough for the academics to stuff their faces at.
Trade school costs are exploding.
And more and more trade work is moving to recent immigrants because of the cost.
