New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) is fighting gun crime in his state by calling for a database of ammunition purchasers and banning .50 caliber rifles.
ABC7 notes that Murphy also wants to require “gun safety training” as part of the process for obtaining a firearm ID card, enact gun storage obligations, mandate registration of out-of-state firearms, and relaunch the “smart gun commission” and a microstamping requirement, among other things.
Murphy’s ideas are already enacted–and failing–in other states.
For example, California already has ammunition gun control, yet South Los Angeles witnessed a 742 percent spike in shooting victims during the first 16 days alone of 2021. California also has a microstamping requirement and firearm registration.
Regarding .50 caliber rifles, they are rarely, if ever, used in crime. And smart guns have proven to be anything but. In fact, a pistol with a biometric reader–a pistol that locks like a smartphone–is difficult to unlock if the user’s fingers are wet, bloodied, or muddied:

The level of idiocy and invasion of privacy is just downright mindnumbing in this country. Un-frakin-real.
Hell No!
These morons want to ban muzzle loaders?
Demented azzhat
The better the weapon, the better possibility of peace.
That was a close one. At least he stopped all those murders with .50 BMG. The carnage has just been incredible.

Somebody steals your gun they will also steal your index finger.
You are correct, it needs to be called what it is.
Think of all the convenience store robberies by 50 cal. rifles. Just think of them. Oh wait. there weren’t any. Nobody wants to lug around a heavy barreled gun for a smash and grab.
Thanks to Chris Christie, Murphy became Governor.
I own an AR-15, never even wanted one until they made sounds about banning them, so I ran out and bought one.
Guess I should start shopping for a 50cal
.50 cal weapons are barely portable. I got to see one used in Pennsylvania on a long-range deer hunt. It required a shooting bench and sand bags to stabilize it. I imagine the modern Barrett is somewhat lighter, but is the extra weight worth the ballistic performance for the average shooter?
The game here is to sell the idea of “high-power” ammunition. Once you agree to ban .50 cal you’ve agreed to that in principle and before you know it all deer rifles are useless for lack of ammo.
My question is, why does anyone, let alone a conservative, live in New Jersey? Even if you live in a peaceful part, you are still governed by the leftist big cities.
Gangbangers are running all over with a 40lb rifle that is 4 feet long. So easy to conceal.
and banning .50 caliber rifles.

Well, let’s think about the rifle calibers around the time of the Constitution.
That’s what they want to focus on.
During the Revolutionary War, the Brown Bess at 0.75 caliber.
So - - .50 cal is a pipsqueak.
