Thanks, that's a good link ... as Reagan said
"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so. So in reality most reputable studies showed no evidence of thinning shells among wild birds. The statistics never supported the fear mongering nor the arbitrary banning by Ruckelshouse of the fledgling EPA; an EPA hell-bent on having authority over our nation's affairs, truth be damned. One example at the link that debunks so much of the popular fear of DDT:
"The phenomena of increasing bird populations during the DDT years may be due, in part, to- fewer blood-sucking insects and reduced spread of avian diseases (avian malaria, rickettsial-pox, avian bronchitis, Newcastle disease, encephalitis, etc);
- more seed and fruits available for birds to eat after plant-eating insects were decimated; and
- Ingestion of DDT triggers hepatic enzymes that detoxify carcinogens such as aflatoxin."
So it's possible that we'd all be healthier with a daily dose of DDT

We used on the farm. Smelled good, and was like a runny maple syrup. Submerge arms and hands in it at times. Worked great on bugs. No cancer or skin conditions here.

It is more incredible the barrels lasted that long in salt water.

“DDT did a job on me. Now I am a real sickee.”
As a kid we used to run behind the mosquito truck spraying DDT. I am in my 80’s and am fine.

How far offshore? How deep?
Water is used for hot radioactive waste, and the whole ocean is a lot bigger than a storage pool.

It was a joke on a song lyric. As discussed later in the thread, DDT being banned has killed millions in the tropics.

The statistics never supported the fear mongering nor the arbitrary banning by Ruckelshouse I love that site. If I recall, I think it mentions that Ruckleshouse never attended one of the hearings and totally ignored the findings of the judge who ruled that DDT was not harmful......
The EPA should be disbanded and let the states deal with their own environmental issues.......
Now you got me started. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act needs to be addressed and amended, removing the cormorants, the cow birds and grackles from the list........

So what really happens when those drums rust away and gradually release the DDT toxins into the ocean? Can’t be good. However doesn’t the gradual release and dilution mean that the actual enviormental consequences are not that severe? The real science won’t matter of course. What will matter will be how this will be used to advance the anti capitalist narrative.
Excellent post. You are 100% correct.

It's the same thing with pathogens, which is, I think, why we've seen such hysteria regarding this Chinese virus. Exactly, people seem to have zero perspective when it comes to risk analysis. I am totally embarrassed by how disgustingly fearful people in this country are about Covid. Especially young people, many of whom don't even get sick when they get it...

I know an old guy who worked at the Livermore Labs who dumped barrels in the Farralons.
