Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday said "it would be serious mistake" for China to strike at Taiwan and expressed "real concerns" about Russia's massing of forces on the border with Ukraine.
In addressing concerns about America's two great Cold War rivals, Blinken stopped short of promising U.S. military intervention — "I'm not going to get into hypotheticals" — but did vow there would be "consequences."
Speaking to host Chuck Todd on NBC's "Meet the Press," Blinken said of Chinese belligerence toward Taiwan, "We have a commitment to Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act, a bipartisan commitment that's existed for many, many years, to make sure that Taiwan has the ability to defend itself, and to make sure that we're sustaining peace and security in the Western Pacific. We stand behind those commitments.
"And all I can tell you is it would be a serious mistake for anyone to try to change the existing status quo by force," he said.
China considers Taiwan to be part of its territory, something that has been the case since Mao Zedong's revolution took over China in 1949 and the remnants of the old Nationalist regime fled to Taiwan, where they and their successors have been a thorn in China's side for decades.

I’ve been following the Ukraine developments closely. Nordstream 2 is a big and fascinating part of this geopolitical chess game. That said, what’s happening in the region will not be isolated; it have reverberations around the globe, that’s for sure.

Blinken shoulda let the “Purple Hair Lady” issue the warning. They might’ve taken it more series.
If this administration fails to deter aggression around the world you’re going to be hearing the name Trump a lot more. When people get scared they want someone to defend them. Just saying.
There is no one on the GOP side that can inspire such confidence and show the necessary resolve like him. The Deep State (and the GOP) hated Trump because he brought peace to us for four years and restored this country’s respect. Biden has already squandered all that and we will be paying a heavy price for our national stupidity.

Weakness invites aggression. Always has, always will.
And it’s a timing thing. We are weak now. We will be at least until 2024. And every day we get worse. We are clearly in decline and other nations see our direction. They won’t wait around and wait for a good opportunity. This IS the good opportunity. They all know it.

You’re probably right. But there is also the chance that the Biden administration will wildly overreact. It’s sort of like having Deputy Barney Fife on scene with a loaded gun.
The tragedy is that with Trump we had an adult with a steady hand on the helm. But the Deep State just couldn’t stand that. So Trump had to go.
Blinken is gonna be sharing his room with the Ukrainian Government in Exile and Hunter Biden.

Yes, we are losing our grip. The willful degradation of our military, the politicization of our intelligence services, and the deepening corruption of our political system have not gone unnoticed.
A strong leader was just pushed out of office. That too was a strong signal to our foes.
And you are right that they see a window of opportunity that might not be there a couple years from now. They see that Biden has neither the will nor the ability to manage multiple crises. It would be a rational time for them to act.
We can’t even stop our border from being invaded.

Yes, you are right. If their ideological projects are interfered with, they would very easily start WWIII.They could go nuclear because they have weakened our conventional forces.
