Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died at age 99, the royal family announced Friday.

Philip and the queen were married for more than 70 years, making him the longest-serving spouse of a reigning British monarch. He was the oldest-ever male member of the British royal family.

Philip was born on the Greek island of Corfu on June 10, 1921, to Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenberg.

He was a proud Britain that was a life-long friend to the US.

Yes, we should care.

Years ago we did a tour of the Tower of London. One of the things we were shown was the spot where one or two (I can't recall exactly how many) of Henry VIII's wives were beheaded. It's a good thing the Liz is a tolerant sort or Philip could have gotten the hot chop!

Perhaps Paul McCartney was right to sing "Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl..."

Post 119 for an interesting (I think) personal story about meeting HRH The Prince Philip.

Yes, he was that type of guy. A real person with real humor—something not allowed in these days of cancel culture.

A refreshing tribute in the era of political correctness and cancel culture.

If we we expand the list to Top 12 Gaffs, add the following:

11. In 1993, he asked reporter Serena French at a charity fundraiser for the World Wildlife Foundation, “You’re not wearing mink knickers, are you?”

12. In 2002, he asked successful Aboriginal businessman William Brin, “Do you still throw spears at each other?

So he went to Wards parties.....so did hundreds of folks

Thursday Club....you’re applying woke standards about how Cucks should behave and confusing it with liberties the producers took

Gentleman’s clubs used to be ribald....they were for men....boy that ship has passed.....harridans ain’t having it are they

Did he cheat.....maybe....

He stayed married 70 plus years

They seemed cordial

Hardly worth throwing him under the bus for

By accident of birth, he eventually took to the yolk and if anything, improved it. Prince Phillip was a man, imperfect. RIP.

Those skinny legs wrapped around his shoulders have some sort of hypnotic effect on him

Plus he’s a crusader for racial equilibrium

Perfect reason to marry and Impregnate a very white looking “black” woman

Healing

There weren’t many men at all that really could have had a successful marriage with Queen Elizabeth, Philip was the perfect husband for her.

If The Crown’s take on the marriage is to be believed, Elizabeth and Philip both put up with many things they did not like and found ways to accommodate each other in marriage for the sake of duty and the monarchy. They expected Charles and Diana to do the same, and that sure backfired on them.

And speaking of whom, I expect the Queen to shortly follow her husband. She’s 92, so who knows. Her mum, the Queen Mother, did live to 101.

Even discarding all that royalty stuff, his distinguished service record as a Royal Navy officer in WW2, in direct combat with the enemy on not one but two theaters and in direct support of US forces numerous times (Invasion of Sicily, kamikaze defense at Pacific landings, Atlantic troopship convoy duty) is worth remembering, as we should remember any Allied officer. Check his record - he wasn’t a shrinking violet in the rear. He manned a spotlight in an exposed position at the Battle of Cape Matapan where British and Italian capital ships fought each other at small arms range. He was in the RN at the start of WW2 and he was there at the surrender of Japan at the end.

Or is honoring faithful allied officers too much for you?

I think the Queen will keep herself busy. She’s not really the sentimental type.
