Trump endorses Sen. Ron Johnson for reelection

Former President Trump on Thursday endorsed Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson (R) for 2022 reelection — despite the fact that Johnson has not publicly announced he will actually launch a bid.

Between the lines: Johnson made a vow when first elected to the Senate that he would only serve two terms. His second term will end in 2022. But the senator in recent months hasn't completely sworn off the idea of another term.

Between the lines: Democrats are chomping at the bit to face Johnson in 2022, Politico notes. The senator has been plagued by controversial comments surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, which some Democratic organizers think could hurt him with Wisconsin swing voters.

What he's saying: Trump wrote in a statement, "Even though he has not yet announced he is running, and I certainly hope he does, I am giving my Complete and Total Endorsement to Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin ... He has no idea how popular he is. Run, Ron, Run!"

Former President Trump on Thursday . . .

Have you noticed that the Palace Guard Media refers to President Trump (you get the title for life) as "Former President Trump," but as for King Barky the Limp, they still call him "President 0bama"?

Johnson has been an absolute beast. Not a RINO bone in him. I thought he wasn’t going to run?

Our Sen. Ron Johnson here in Wisconsin is a true conservative and he has been very vocal on election integrity and border control. He said when he first ran he only wanted to do two terms. 2022 would be a 3rd term and he is thinking over if he will announce for another term. He has said our country needs good conservatives in the Senate so he may go for a 3rd term. Our other senator, Tammy Baldwin, is a horror.

Surely he's not the only conservative in the state? Maybe he should keep his promise and make way for a younger candidate?

Is he the only good conservative in the whole state? If not there is no reason why a another good conservative couldn't replace him. His opponents are just going to use his broken promise against him.

Good man, for sure. As much as I wish people would get in and then get out of DC in principle, he does seem to have an immunity to Washington DC syndrome.

The problem is that Johnson has been tested by fire and found to be good. So many Republicans run, claiming to be conservative, then pull a Paul Ryan.

First of all, well said on Senator Johnson. I think there have been only two votes of his that I disagreed with initially, then once he ‘splained himself, I totally got it. ;)

“Our other senator, Tammy Baldwin, is a horror.”

She was TOTALLY bought and paid for with outside money. If she had had to run her own campaign and do her own fundraising, she would’ve failed.

She has done NOTHING for Wisconsin. Absolutely NOTHING.

SO excited to see Rebecca Kleefisch starting a PAC to fund raise. If all goes well, she WILL be our next Governor!
