THE CHAUVIN TRIAL SO FAR
owerline ^ | APRIL 8, 2021 | JOHN HINDERAKER

Everyone is against him, including his own police department. The three officers who were with Chauvin on May 25, and who also have been charged, presumably won’t testify. Their lawyers will insist that they take the 5th–as, by the way, Floyd’s drug dealer did yesterday. The dealer was with Floyd on May 25 and pled the 5th on the ground that he may be prosecuted for supplying Floyd with the overdose of fentanyl that killed him. But the jury won’t see that.

The trial so far as been the world vs. Derek Chauvin and Eric Nelson. While the “dream team” prosecution has rotated counsel from the Attorney General’s office and various high-priced lawyers from Minnesota and D.C. who are working for free, Eric Nelson, outmanned and outgunned, has stood up alone for his client. Over the last two weeks, he has grown visibly tired and yesterday he lost control over some exhibits through sheer exhaustion. (No one who hasn’t tried a jury case, even one of relatively modest length like the Chauvin trial, can understand what hard work it is.) Maybe the jury will look down on him, compared with the well-heeled prosecution team. Then again, maybe they will relate to a classic underdog story.

The trial’s result likely will come down to the medical testimony on both sides that we have not yet seen. But so far, I think Chauvin’s defense has held its own, and probably has surprised most members of the jury. The political class may have expected to usher Derek Chauvin off to a speedy oblivion for the sake of a greater good, but instead, they have a fight on their hands.

NP, thought maybe you made 1/10 of a penny for each click. Looks like the link originally came from an email so it’s probably the email client or service getting the 1/10 of a penny or simply credit for the click which helps them score higher with google.

Pretty clear to me that the city of Minneapolis has given the smack down to city employee witnesses for the prosecution. Deceive, create a narrative to protect the city. Make sure everyone knows the Police department is clean as a whistle and chauvin is just a rogue cop and broke the rules.

In fact, these witnesses know their jobs depend on their testimony.

I’m sure the ball is already rolling to have major blue state riots when the verdict is heard. However, their goal is also to have riots in red states.

This being said, if red state governors are ready for a swift and strong crackdown, or in the case of a few weakling red governors, the legislature and other state agencies and judges have taken up the slack and are ready to stomp on this swarm, like any other kind of destructive insects, this will be a big defeat for their agenda.

i love how the coroner tried so hard to not mention that floyd’s suffication could have been the result of his fentanyl overdose saying, mr floyd died from a lack of oxygen to the brain. he inferred that it was from a knee to the neck, and i am sure his testimony did not stand up to cross examination.

Everyone is against him, including his own police department.

For anyone considering being a cop, my advice would be do not do it! Most cities have no problems whatsoever turning on their own people and throwing them under the wheels. This has happened over and over and over. Even saying one wrong word, if you don't tow the politically correct line, you'll be a target or worse, they'll throw you in the same prisons you sent others to.

This is NOT the place or predicament you want to put yourselves in.

The jury know that the prosecution will leak their names if they vote to acquit.
