Charles Barkley has blamed politicians for dividing Americans and criticized both Republicans and Democrats exacerbating problems between white and Black people in the U.S.

The former NBA star, who is now a sports analyst with TNT, made the remarks on Saturday before a Final Four game between Baylor and Houston. He appears to have been responding to footage of Robert F. Kennedy announcing the news of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in 1968.

Kennedy, who was also assassinated later that year, spoke movingly about King's death in famous remarks delivered in Indianapolis, which is the location of the 2021 Final Four.

You could extend this to all major wars, whether it’s a war over politics or religion, the division is almost always started by some politician or leader inflaming the differences between people as way to say follow me I can fix all that’s wrong...

It could be blaming the Jews, Muslims, Christians, or it could be blaming white people, communists, socialists, let to their own, most people will get along and any differences will be settled locally without starting a major war....

Charles Barkley gets a lot of stuff wrong. But he was spot on during BLM riots. He said ordinary Americans didn’t want to listen to this “stuff” and wanted to watch basketball without politics getting involved. What shocked me was that Shaq agreed with Charles.

Barkley is smarter than many people think he is.

More logic than the creeps running us ragged over Covid, also.

PDJT was a shining exception to this rule:

“Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves. These are just and reasonable demands of righteous people and a righteous public, but for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists.

“Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities, rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation, an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge and the crime and the gangs and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

“At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America and, through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other. When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.

“The Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when god’s people live together in unity. We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.”

Back in the Nineties, Barkley was openly Republican, though he later backed off of that - probably due to intense peer pressure.

The quote that circulated at the time was that he told his grandmother about it, and she said, "Oh, you don't want to be a Republican - they are for the rich!"

Barkley replied, "Grandma, I am the rich." :)

"I really believe that in my heart, but I think our system is set up where our politicians, whether they're Republicans or Democrats, are designed to make us not like each other so they can keep their grasp of money and power."

Almost a good statement. In reality the Democrats are far worse about creating and using racial division for political gain. It's the Democrats who are the bad actors when it comes to race.

Many athletes are like that. They are paying higher taxes after all.

It's incoherent. Demagogic Party radicals do that, and they incite rioting and murder. To them, Barkley is black, white, and rich.

There is no comparison between the GOP & The Rat Party. Rats preach hatred of whites, men, conservatives, orthodox Christians, capitalusts, rich people etc. Constantly. The GOP talks about policy differences, and the Rats call that bigotry. Barkley is playing that silly game that lets the Democrat Party off the hook.

All over the place. anyone remember him going against Michael Savage? Called Savage a racist and Savage told him to go dribble a basketball. Him and Savage are cut from the same cloth. Throw in O’rieley and Scarboro.

Politicians are dividers. They see the world in terms of voting blocks and how to exploit them.

The country really could have benefitted from another four years of that kind of thinking. Such a missed opportunity, this last election.

Chuck is 100% correct. And frankly, politics has a hugely outsized importance in our lives. Politics and government has become a monster in all of our lives.
