Florida’s Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner, Nikki Fried (D), used an appearance on MSNBC to criticize Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for his COVID response; Fried is rumored to be preparing to challenge DeSantis for his reelection bid in 2022.
Fried accused DeSantis of “going off on a rampage” earlier this week, when he vowed to sign an executive order banning the use of vaccine passports. The Biden administration is planning to spearhead the implementation of vaccine passports to require individuals to show proof of vaccination in order to attend public events, travel, and reenter normal life.
“It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society,” DeSantis said earlier this week.
Fried voiced support for a mandate for the use of vaccine passports by “local and state businesses,” specifically the cruise industry, which is a dominating industry contributing to Florida’s economy.

She’s for the vaccine passport, DeSantis will pin on her, that had she been Governor, she would have supported a strict lockdown forever, close businesses forever, stop tourism forever, keep schools closed forever, etc....how is that going to sell in Florida, horribly IMO....
I can’t imagine that given that platform she could win, but anything is possible with Democrats and their ability to rig the outcome of elections....
IMO the end result will be like in the Bush vs Gore Presidential election, Jeb Bush was the Governor of Florida at the time, the Democrats vowed to defeat Jeb Bush when he came up for re-election, the end result was Jeb Bush crushed his Democratic opponent...
I hope you are right. But the fact that this concept of vaccine passports is even being discussed, is troubling.
I fear incremental totalitarianism. If implemented, at first we will have a passport for Covid. Then it could be expanded to cover any other aspect of our lives, which liberals deem to be their business. This sounds like a prelude to China’s social credit score system.
She’s opposed just about everything our Governor has done.

I share your misgivings. I would point out that some conservatives would enjoy a ‘social credit score system’ too. They would just use different parameters. Totalitarianism can come from both the left and the right.
