Documents detail wild alleged $25 million Gaetz extortion scheme

Rep. Matt Gaetz possesses text message screenshots, an email, and a typed document that purportedly support his claims that a federal investigation into his relationship with a 17-year-old is related to an extortion scheme against him.

On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that the Justice Department is investing whether Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid her to travel with him. Gaetz has called the report "totally false." Gaetz told Axios that his lawyers told him that he "was not a target but a subject of an investigation regarding sexual conduct with women."

The Florida Republican countered the report on Twitter and in statements to Axios and Fox News with a claim that his family is being extorted for $25 million and that the people pushing stories about an investigation into his relationships with women are the people extorting him and the subjects of an FBI extortion investigation over the last few weeks.

The documents in Gaetz's possession detail an alleged scheme that revolves around attempts by former Air Force intelligence officer Bob Kent and Beggs & Lane attorney David McGee, a former federal prosecutor, to free ex-FBI agent-turned-private investigator Robert Levinson from imprisonment in Iran.

I give him credit for not being a full-term Governor at the time of his election as VP.

The cover story of soliciting funds to try to find and free an ex-FBI agent is “plausible deniability”. Of the $25 million demanded there will be a small amount that will be expended on the “search”. The balance will be siphoned off to off shore accounts and never accounted for.

Any criminal case against these lawyers will be muddied up with the veneer of a legitimate attempt to find and free the ex-FBI agent. The offer of a pardon is the fly in the ointment. If that is on tape then extortion applies, big time.

That would seem to be the reason the “sex story” was leaked because someone on the bad team found out about the wire being used for the meeting to arrange the $4.5 million down payment and the conspirators had to be warned to run away.

This story is getting weirder. Arthur Bloom at 'The American Conservative' has an article up that adds more (confusing) information about the extortion plot. The texts are between Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame) and the media director of the Israeli Consolute in NYC named Jake Novak.

For reasons unclear, Jake Novak texts Adams three days before the Times story was first published to tell Adams about the grand jury investigation into Gaetz. It's unknown if Adams responded to that text on that day. But, after the story was published, Adams texts Novak back to see what else he knows.

Novak - unbelievably - says that he's part of the effort to 'free Levinson' and this extortion claim is ' screwing up my efforts to free Bob Levinson.” When pressed by Adams about the extortion claim, Novak alleges that the texts that have been published supporting Gaetz' story have been 'altered.'

Honestly, no one in this tory is credible. Bob Levinson is SURELY dead (and that's the position of his family) and some of the people involved in this alleged extortion plot (including the man Novak says is a lifelong friend) have ROBUST histories of raising money off Levinson's name and never delivering anything in return. IOW, it's a con they've run on more than one person.

But, whatever the case, I thought it was interesting that Novak is alleging the texts were altered after you pointed out the unexplainable peculiarity of the iPhone messenger text that Gaetz's father 'received'.

Levinson’s reasons for meeting with the assassin , a black convert to islam and expat American [who killed a former Shah of Iran diplomat in Washington DC in 1981 or so, on behalf of the Iran revolutionaries who overthrew the Shah. The assassin has Iran regime connections. Levinson’s trip in 2007 was initially said to be for the purpose of tracing cigarette smuggling in the Persian Gulf region for British American Tobacco. BAT then denied having anything to do with it.

Then it was said he went there on behalf of the CIA. Levinson was formerly FBI.

Other sources say he was there as part of a documentary project.

Still others indicate he was there looking into Russian mob smuggling.

The lawyer who tried to get money from Gaetz’s dad volunteered pro bono to rep the family of Levinson in a case involving Iran.

The law firm includes a guy named Beggs who I think is a crazy and die hard leftist Democrat.
