Rep. Matt Gaetz possesses text message screenshots, an email, and a typed document that purportedly support his claims that a federal investigation into his relationship with a 17-year-old is related to an extortion scheme against him.
On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that the Justice Department is investing whether Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid her to travel with him. Gaetz has called the report "totally false." Gaetz told Axios that his lawyers told him that he "was not a target but a subject of an investigation regarding sexual conduct with women."
The Florida Republican countered the report on Twitter and in statements to Axios and Fox News with a claim that his family is being extorted for $25 million and that the people pushing stories about an investigation into his relationships with women are the people extorting him and the subjects of an FBI extortion investigation over the last few weeks.
The documents in Gaetz's possession detail an alleged scheme that revolves around attempts by former Air Force intelligence officer Bob Kent and Beggs & Lane attorney David McGee, a former federal prosecutor, to free ex-FBI agent-turned-private investigator Robert Levinson from imprisonment in Iran.

The stupidity of the alleged conmen/extortionists is something.
I WONDER if this is a glimpse into what happens to conservatives in the swamp?
The people here praising Mike Pence and insipidly attacking Matt Gaetz should return to this thread and apologize.
I can’t believe the amount of moronic vapidity I’m seeing.
This case certainly will demonstrate plenty by the Gaetz accusers.
The NY Times is due some major legal trouble.
I foresee a massive lawsuit. Don’t hold back Matt, millions and millions and millions. They deserve worse.
What’s amazing is how utterly reckless the NY Times is.
How can you publish a story like with no sources which is clearly aimed at destroying a person’s reputation and in this case, a sitting Congressman.
The NY Slimes needs to be taught a lesson.
How many of our conservative political ‘allies’ were compromised in this manner and extorted into obedience?
The next day, on March 17, Don Gaetz purportedly met with Kent, and Kent handed him a three-page document outlining “Project Homecoming.” That document detailed a plan to save Levinson at the cost of a $25 million loan.
In 1983, Don Gaetz co-founded VITAS Healthcare, and in 2004, he and his co-founders reportedly sold their stock in the company for $406 million.
In the Project Homecoming document, Kent then asked that the loan should be deposited in the trust account of Beggs & Land, naming David L. McGee, and deposited no later than March 19.
The Project Homecoming document states that Gaetz is “under investigation by the FBI for various public corruption and public integrity issues” and alleges that the FBI is aware of photos depicting Gaetz in a “sexual orgy with underage prostitutes.”
This started out weird and now feels like there’s some out of work Hollywood screenwriter doing a side gig.
Gaetz at an orgy with 17 year olds and cameras? Maybe. We don’t necessarily elect the best and brightest.
Scheme to repatriate Levinson? OK...I can kind of see that but why get Gaetz involved. Wouldn’t there be someone in THIS administration to carry the flag around?
$25M cost of repatriation and writing a letter to that effect? I mean, is it possible? Maybe. Does any sane extortionist put that stuff on paper? No. Even the crazy extortionists know better than that.
I just don’t know what to make of this but I do know that the path the federal government has been going down for the past couple of decades makes this kind of insanity possible. God willing it won’t make this kind of insanity plausible as well.
The problem is it’s very possible this absurd fraud/extortion plot has absolutely nothing to do with the investigation into Gaetz. They could be related only insomuch that the knowledge of the investigation by the conmen/extortionists was used as the hook in the con.
Of course, this still invites serious questions with respect to how these fraudsters came to be aware of a federal criminal investigation that is supposed to be secret.
The only way the NY Times is in any jeopardy of a defamation claim from Gaetz is if Gaetz isn’t a subject in or target of a federal investigation in any way. That seems unlikely as Gaetz himself, in the article above, acknowledges that he is in fact the subject of a federal probe.
Yeah....up. Makes you wonder how they could believe the NY Times after all this time if they are legitimate posters.
I suspect that the scam might have another dimension. Some of the deep state players may have wanted to create a process crime along the lines of obstruction or justice or bribery, but they managed to trap themselves instead.
Yes, the fraud/extortion scheme is simply deranged.
Personally, I’m becoming more of the mind that there isn’t any ‘there, there’ with respect to Gaetz’s behavior with a minor child. Why do I say that? Because as a factual matter, that would be pretty simple and straightforward to prove. It wouldn’t take the FBI 6-months to indict him if he really had been banging a 17-year old.
Instead, what I think is probably more likely is this has more to do with Gaetz’s relationship with the Florida Tax Commissioner who is in ALL kinds of criminal peril and already facing a number of federal indictments including one on child sex trafficking.
It’s a classic Deep State hit IMO! They set it up some unknown person to do a job against a conservative they want to get rid of, then pretend they’re “investigating” after the fact. If it works and becomes public later, they claim ignorance, if it fails, like this one apparently has, first they leak it in the press, then they say they’re ‘investigating’ which they are. They’re investigating how to make it disappear or pin it on either side via “new evidence” TBD or some such. Just keep an eye on this!
Screenshots provided to the Washington Examiner show a message that his father, Don Gaetz, a former Florida state Senate president, said he received from Kent on March 16. The message proposes “a plan that can make [Matt Gaetz’s] future legal and political problems go away.” Gaetz has denied any relationship with a minor.
I don't know if this is true for everyone, but my IPhone shows the initials and first name of the sender. Under that format, this text came from someone with the initials DG and the first name Don.
Sounds more like the Pee Tape 2.0 than anything else.
While nothing would shock me when it comes to sexual debauchery of our elected representatives, I simply have a very hard time believing someone would allow themselves to be compromised like that.
But, as I said to another commenter, Gaetz’s relationship with that Tax Commissioner who has already been indicted might be causing some peripheral damage.
McGee is reported in this article to have won a large judgement against Iran for the apparent death of Levinson.
Since McGee appears to have been involved in the scheme to obtain $25 million from Rep. Gaetz's family he may actually think that Levinson is still alive, or just be part of an elaborate fraud or CIA domestic operation. This whole story reads like something out of a movie script.
Is the Gretzky family worth so much that they could afford to pay 25 million?
