(CNN)The man charged with killing 10 people in a Boulder grocery store passed a background check and purchased the weapon used in the slaughter, a Colorado gun shop owner said Friday.
The suspected gunman, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, purchased a Ruger AR-556 on March 16 -- days before the shootings, a senior law enforcement source told CNN on condition of anonymity.

Once again showing that background checks are pretty much useless except for recording who is buying a gun. I think that is really the goal. It sure isn’t to make us safer.
Once again, the FBI has eyes on someone that causes death and destruction. Odd how that keeps happening.
The terrorist’s family said he was mentally ill. Then they stated days prior to the shooting mentally ill boy was sitting on a couch playing with what they descried as a “Machine gun”.
So mentally ill boy is playing with machine gun and the family does zip nothing?

Sounds like a good pretext to build a massive database of your medical history and internet postings as part of a background check.
“Hmmm... it says here you complained about the grade you received from an Asian teacher when you were 16 years old. No soup for you!”.
So how would universal background checks have prevented this shooting? The truth is that gun laws are intended to punish gun owners, not save lives.

this isn’t a win. people are missing the point. the fact that this guy passed a background check two weeks before he gunned down a dozen people will only create more hysterical calls for more intrusive background checks.

Pretty sure the FL nightclub shooter and the CA Christmas party shooter both passed background checks.

That is my firm conclusion I arrived at yesterday. The FBI stated he was on their watch list yet he passed the background check with absolutely no follow up. This is completely on Wray.
If he was arrested for beating the crap out that classmate when he was senior in high school instead of just getting a tap on his hand I suspect he might not have gotten that gun.
