A worker at an Atlanta grocery store heard 'clicking sounds,' and it sounded to him like someone was loading weapons inside a restroom stall, he told police. Then he saw an an 'AR-15-style rifle' leaning against the wall.

The sharp-eyed Instacart worker is getting credit for helping officers to stop the man wearing body armor and carrying a half-dozen guns from roaming through the Publix grocery store Wednesday, police said.

The new details are included in police incident reports released Thursday by Atlanta police. The man's intentions are not explained in the reports.

The worker, Charles Russell, 'heard clicking sounds from the bathroom stall,' a police report states. 'It sounded to him like someone was loading firearms.'

Russell then alerted a manager at the store, urging him to call 911.

It appears he may not have actually violated any laws but, perhaps, was about to. Strange case, though.

Reminds me of this, though:

There were at least 1/2 dozen mass shootings while Trump was President.

Not true (necessarily). As always, based on state and or local law, it “depends”.

That young man was up to no good. Probably got cold feet before the police arrived.

There were, indeed, around a half dozen mass shootings under Trump.

However, under Obama's third term, we are at two (and this would have made three) in only a few months of the first year. At this rate, we would expect to see forty-eight mass shootings.

That's a difference of quantity that should instruct even the casual observer.

"So at what point does your God-given bran tell you that someone who is open carrying is a threat as opposed to someone exercising their constitutional right?"

Using your "bran", you could surmise that this perp wasn't attending a gunshow in the bathroom, wasn't preparing to hold off the Chinese People's First Route Army from seizing that grocery store, or all armed up to "protect his rights under the Second Amendment of the Constitution".

All indications are that this idiot was readying himself for some wholesale slaughter, which is all we need, isn't it?

No offense, buddy, but you wouldn't have made it past Day One in I Corps and we really don't need people like you protecting us, do we?

I know you for a while, so I will endeavor to remain respectful. My immediate impulse was to be less so.

"Under what scenario are you carrying five firearms while wearing body armor, loading them in the stall of a grocery store bathroom?"

Was what he was doing illegal?

This one is tricky. Right now he is charged with 5 counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony. If there can be evidenced that he intended a mass shooting, by inspecting his phone and/or computer, then absolutely.

In the meantime, just like the SCOTUS judge who remarked "I cannot define obscenity, but I know it when I see it," I cannot identify the crime, but I do see the intent.

"Respectfully: Use your God-given brain here.

So at what point does your God-given bran tell you that someone who is open carrying is a threat as opposed to someone exercising their constitutional right?

Generally, my God-given brain tells me that the man is a threat when they carry 5 guns into a Publix bathroom stall, load them, and emerge wearing body armor and a ski mask.

That's a little different than the man who walks in with a single pistol on his hip.

Isn’t Georgia and open carry state?

Yes, it is, IF you have a CCW permit.

“Motive? What is the crime?”

If you walked in on that bathroom scene, I guarantee you wouldn’t stay in there, other than to subdue this idiot.

Nossir.

A person who is not prohibited by Georgia law from possessing a weapon may carry a weapon without a license in specific situations. These limited circumstances include:

Carrying a weapon inside your home, motor vehicle, or place of business;

Carrying a long gun, as long as if the long gun is loaded, it must be carried in an open and exposed manner;

Carrying a handgun in a case if it is unloaded

I know right? When a grown man can’t smuggle firearms into a grocery store bathroom and then load the firearms in the stall then THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON!

Check his bank accounts for large deposits from three-lettter agencies.
Also check for MK-Ultra / various antidepressant prescriptions, and his social media history for Aloha Snackbar.

More importantly, search all of his electronics for any indication of an intent to commit mass murder (or any murder at all, for that matter). That will allow the crime of Criminal Intent to Commit a Felony to stick.

Personally, I’d stick to the letter of the law. I’d not consider country-of-origin to be a factor in the charges.
