SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE MARINE CORPS MEMORANDUM SMMC Core Values Mem [worse than bad: the enemy is us; it's not your father's military. See comment]
US Marine corps ^ | February 22 2021 | SMMC Troy E. Black

[Excerpts]

4. ..some [recruits] arrive with mindsets and biases that are wholly inconsistent with our way of thinking. We must speak plainly and forcefully with our recruits and candidates from day one, and tell them that..sexists, bigots, homophobes...are not welcome. It is impossible to be both a good Marine, and be any one of those things at the same time...

5. Introducing an individual to our core values and explaining how they work in practice during entry level training is important. In fact, it is critical if we are to establish uniform expectations for every Marine. However, it is also insufficient. The battle to change a person’s mindset takes time and consistent effort.

An individual enters the Marine Corps with at least 17 years of life experience and potential biases that establish a foundation for that individual’s mindset about race and ethnicity, gender and sexual identity, and the use of coercive power over subordinates. Thirteen weeks of recruit training has an impact on changing and overcoming potential flaws with these mindsets, but we need more effort to sustain the transformation...

6. Stand downs featuring lectures and presentations about our values and what is expected of every Marine have their place, but their impact on a person’s mindset is limited. More important is the role of enlisted leaders in setting the example, indicating by their words and deeds that they adhere to a positive vision of what it means to be a Marine who values the service of every individual.

7. I expect leaders who see any sexism, racism, or other destructive attitudes in the ranks to step in immediately and intervene, just like you would to stop an impending safety mishap.

In those instances when leaders see indicators of these “sub-cultures” they should address the problem head-on by engaging directly with individuals and small groups, reinforcing the teacher-scholar/senior-subordinate relationship advocated by our 13th Commandant, Major General Lejeune. I believe that through discussion, teaching, and mentorship, leaders can help replace destructive attitudes with a more positive vision encapsulated in the Marine Corps’ core values and tradition, more in line with a true culture of recognizing the intrinsic value found in every Marine. Those Marines unwilling to accept our core values should be separated.

8. Our Hallmarks as Marines are discipline and spirit. We have been known for our willingness to hold leaders accountable for the malign actions of the individual. It is time for us to embrace this mentality once again; and hold ourselves accountable for failing to identify and hold responsible those to our left or right that are failing to adhere to our core values....

If you are the senior enlisted leader of a unit and the “sub- cultures” of...sexism, extremism, or hazing exists within that unit, then I am looking to you to create the appropriate climate and to communicate your rejection of these attitudes and behaviors which are clearly incompatible with our core values.

10. I expect enlisted leaders and Marines at all levels to support one another as we collectively combat racism, sexism, extremism, and hazing. Enough is enough, help each other exercise the moral courage to look for signs of these negative behaviors and to intervene when necessary. We must eliminate the “sub-cultures” that give these behaviors life....

Mission First, Marines Always! Semper Fidelis

I bet R. Lee Ermy is thankful to be with the Lord. He would cry if he saw what has happened to his beloved Marine Corps.

“My beloved Corps has crossed a line that never should have been crossed, and is going to alienate the fundamentally conservative young men who historically have formed the central core of the Marines.”

If you hold conservative Christian values concerning sex and marriage, you are not welcome. This will most definitely hurt recruiting in the traditionally strong recruiting areas of the Midwest and the South. The country’s decline continues......

The establishment republicans don’t care. Most of them stabbed Trump in the back to get the democrats back in charge and restore the swamp to all its glory. They won’t care about the Marine Corps being destroyed either.

This hasn’t been our Corps since the mid 70’s, that was the first time I ever heard of a “CONTRACT CORPORAL”.

When I was in (68-73), rank had to be EARNED, you didn’t get it as part of your enlistment contract.

Hate to say it but the Corps has turned into nothing more than a bunch of WOKE PUSSIES!

"So they are now looking to brainwash recruits."

And... how is this different than any other day?

They used to condition our troops to be pro-American, new guy.

I haven't seen the case made that 'pro-American' means tolerating bias and prejudice. Used to be race and gender, they're just expanding the scope of potential sticking points. There's all kinds of Americans, after all. They're all volunteers, that's 'pro-American' enough for me - and who says they aren't 'conditioning' troop to be pro-American?

Frankly surprised we can get volunteers anymore, with this insane endless sandwar.

'New guy' - lol :)

I haven't seen the case made that 'pro-American' means tolerating bias and prejudice.

The promotion of sexual degeneracy and acceptance of forms of mental illness as "normal" have been tools by which American culture has been torn down over the last 100 years. If the military had stopped at accepting open homosexuality in the ranks because they determined that it wouldn't affect troop morale or unit efficiency then we could accept that they are acting in good faith. But they didn't. They continued with the inanity of the modern pop cultural rot and decided not only to accept transexuals in the ranks, but to pay for their freaking surgery. This is not some sort of advancement in civil rights - this is cultural marxism and the military WILL suffer for it. Which means WE will suffer for it.

In addition, the mission of the US military is NOT to reflect and be accepting of all Americans as troops. If it were, the military would accept the disabled and elderly as well. The mission of the military is to be ready and able to engage in combat in defense of the United States. They will STILL consider you ineligible for enlistment if you are colorblind, for example. Yet people who want body parts chopped off and demand to be referred to as a different sex are to be accepted? That is madness. Unit readiness will suffer. Unit cohesion will suffer.

And yet, through all this, the priority of this Marine is to condition any resistance to this madness out of the new recruits? By doing so, they will be conditioning all of the rational elements of being a sane American out of them as well, and will be forcing them to accept the alternate reality that marxists wish for all of us. And none of that will make the military more effective.

You have to realize that at 17-27ish most of a young mans moral and intellectual compass is freaked out by distractions anyway.

The function of Initial Entry training is to break them down in every way, then rebuild them into a man ( okay, or woman/it whatever if it must be so for now) that knows himself and his capabilities regarding moral personal and physical courage.

This not something new, just the added garbage of the current floozy admin to be digested, reflected on then mostly thrown out of most every thinking, rational and honorable mans mind.

I see these young folks very regularly on a major Army training base and I can attest based on close observation an d personal conversation, that the mantra of the left is not as well inculcated as the god SGM may preach.

For those in the ranks and divsisions, they already know that the left BS is mandatory and has been since long before i was a private (83) and they know what the reality of combat oriented life is. The ash and trash stays home, the lightweights last onl so long before the !SG and CO send them elsewhere and the real men ( okay, and women) ruck up, suck it up and drive on to accomplish the mission.

The salt of the ranks from E1 through O10 is still there, preserving the flavor, it has always been rare.

Real, timely and current observations. Not fear and worry by some folks ( the OP, for example) who has not served nor experienced the shakedown let alone the fight. Bless him.

You folks that are worried the US military will deploy to gun you down (because you are on the right) need to catch your breath.

Anyway, God Bless the US Military, even illegal aliens get a cot and a hot....

We’re may talking about different things.

The US military is a social institution, that reflects current American society. To say that it cannot, or should not, is fantasy.

Whether we like it or not, that’s reality. And we, as a nation, will likely pay a heavy price for it. Again.

Nice exposition though, we probably agree on a lot of things - at least we’re not in the camp of those who insult current troops with labels like ‘woke p*ssies’. Good grief.

Interesting. I wonder if General Pace or General Mundy would be considered good Marines? Carl Mundy was well known for his adamant opposition to the homosexual lifestyle.

Look for significant cuts in the reserves as well. These are in many ways just as damaging.

“Bone Frog” is a modern iteration / logo for “frogman” aka today “SEALs.”

SEALs still refer to themselves as “frogmen” or “frogs.”

Really? I have found that there is a growing welfare class within the service. The days are long gone when a guy like General Krulak could openly encourage troops not to get married during their first enlistment. The US Military is among the best places to have children out of wedlock and get years of light duty to compensate.
