Electric Vehicles Are the U.S. Auto Industry’s Future—If Dealers Can Figure Out How to Sell Them
The Wall Street Journal ^ | March 7, 2021 | Nora Naughton |

Car dealer Brad Sowers is spending money to prepare for the coming wave of new electric models from General Motors Co. He is installing charging stations, upgrading service bays and retraining staff at his St. Louis-area dealership to handle the technology-packed vehicles.

But when he considers how many plug-in Chevy Bolts he sold last year—nine, out of the nearly 4,000 Chevrolets sold at his Missouri dealerships—it gives him pause.

“The consumer in the middle of America just isn’t there yet,” when it comes to switching to electric vehicles, he said, citing the long distances many of his customers drive daily and a lack of charging infrastructure outside major cities.

As auto executives and investors buzz about the coming age of the electric car, many dealers say they are struggling to square that enthusiasm with the reality today on new-car sales lots, where last year battery-powered vehicles made up fewer than 2% of U.S. auto sales.

Most consumers who come to showrooms aren’t shopping for electric cars, and with gasoline prices relatively low, even hybrid models can be a tough sell, dealers and industry analysts say.

Auto makers are moving aggressively to expand their electric-vehicle offerings with dozens of new models set to arrive in coming years. Some like GM are setting firm targets for when they plan to phase out gas-powered cars entirely.

I don’t know of any battery that can take a megawatt of power.

“12,000 pound towing”

That is the Power Boost limit. Expect the EV’s to exceed that number.

I would add there is a lot of cascade here on travel.

won’t travel to visit family because of the eternal pandemic.

Many heritage/military sites will be closed for security reasons.

Many museums will close because of not enough customers. I suspect there will be a purge of non profits that don’t fit the agenda.

Public parks will close because of environmentalism and it takes money to maintain them just for tourists.

No cruises.

I am sure this is many more to add to the list.

Think of all the reasons we travel and why we won’t in the future. The world has changed already, we live in the past.

“So? Critical truck routes are over 1,000. Nice try at the EV communist propaganda.”

Then you agree with me that EV semis can cheaply and efficiently handle most routes with today’s technology.

The only possible way to make them viable(?) is to use auto rail for longer trips.
And even them I’m not sure a train system could handle millions(?) of passender cars a day?

“The only possible way to make them viable(?) is to use auto rail for longer trips.”

Most use is not for long distance trips. They are perfectly viable now.

It costs $2500 plus motels to drive your car cross-country. Take a plane.

Aprt from its crazy towing capacity, Elon Musk also stated that the Tesla pickup truck would have seating for six people. The layout of the Tesla Truck’s seats would be quite interesting, considering that the vehicle’s design is based on the Tesla Semi, which places its driver in the center. Musk also stated that the seats of the truck would be large enough to fit a person like iconic WWF (now WWE) wrestler Andre the Giant, who is 7’4″. Based on Musk’s tweets, the Tesla Truck would definitely be marketed as an all-around utility vehicle.

Is there a cost calculated for $ electricity per charge?

In other words what is the cost electric vs gas.

“The left isn’t interested in any plan that doesn’t turn us into a controllable subservient people who worship almighty government.”

Remember back years ago we thought muscle cars were dead?

Now a honda civic performs at the ‘60’s muscle car level.

I drove off the dealer lot with 750 hp and a five year warranty.

The base Tesla beats a vette at the red light.

The new Model S is less than 2 seconds 0-60, 200mph top speed and a cruising range greater than 500 miles!

“Is there a cost calculated for $ electricity per charge?”

Hundreds of evaluations. Plus the window sticker gives the equivalent miles per gallon. You can see this on the dealers websites.

Build a hundred new nuclear reactors and perhaps there will be enough electricity for everyone to drive one of these faggotwaggons.
