Doesn’t statehood have to be approved by the states, or can it be done unilaterally by Congress?
“Not wasting any time are they?”
They are really scared of something.
Yeah, what have they done for us? Not much lately... other than exporting baby mamas!
Next up: DC, Guam.
I thought PR has said that they don’t want statehood
wouldn’t be a problem if the boycotters hadn’t given the senate away.
Puerto Rican statehood is a bad idea. The better proposal is to just give the island independence.
I wish we could give Puerto Rico back to Spain, but Spain does not want it. We never should have invaded that sh*t hole in the first place. It reminds me of Iraq.
It is likely that would actually lean Republican.
Jenniffer González-Colón (New Progressive Party) is the U.S. House Resident Commissioner. She assumed office on January 3, 2017. Her current term ends on January 3, 2023.
González-Colón (New Progressive Party) ran for re-election for U.S. House Resident Commissioner. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
The delegate is also called the resident commissioner. The resident commissioner seat from Puerto Rico is a 4-year term. The position is a non-voting member of the United States House of Representatives. Gonzalez-Colon is the first female resident commissioner.
According to her US House biography, Gonzalez-Colon is a “lifelong Republican and activist for Puerto Rican statehood.” Gonzalez-Colon was previously the chairwoman of the Republican Party of Puerto Rico.
The new governor is also a member of the New Progressive Party.
Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia (New Progressive Party) is the Governor of Puerto Rico. He assumed office on January 2, 2021. His current term ends on January 2, 2025.
He defeated the incumbent governor, Wanda Vázquez Garced in a primary with 57% of the vote and then won 33% in a 6 candidate race.
In the current Congress, there is no HR 1522.
The original post is B.S. and people on here need to do a validity check before knee-jerk reacting to everything.
I was going to say it took this long and that shows racism and bias against Puerto Rican people. Some reparations on the way? All this time and the bill wasn’t even introduced yet?
Leftists never let up and hunger for control / conservatives just want to live in peace
1. PR says they don’t want to be a state.
2. The Senate will never approve.
IIRC “Commonwealth” won by a wide margin each time.
The Democrat Party most be worried about some Democrat Senators defecting to the Republican party. Got to create a bunch of new States.
Violates international law. The UN considers Puerto Rico non-self-governing territory. They must be given opportunity for independence.
Hmmmm, they are going to annex Puerto Rico?
Can The Sudetenland be far behind?
Dear ‘Rats:
Sell it back to Spain.
You can thank me later.

I fully agree with Puerto Rican statehood, but I do not agree in any way with stomping on what the founding fathers intended by making Washington DC a state. It was intended that the nation’s capitol would be kept solvent and not given state status, and I think it should stay that way.
