I did just read that statehood is a simple majority bill through both houses of Congress and the president’s signature. It does state that historically the people of that territory voted in an election to declare their intent to join the US, but I wouldn’t put it past the Dems to just ram it through, damn the torpedoes.

I believe The people of Puerto Rico have voted down state hood many times. It is far more beneficial to receive social benefits without having to pay federal taxes.

Republicans should say that statehood of Puerto Rico is on condition of their referendum. It has to pass 50%. Previous votes did not count because many Puerto Ricans did not vote.
