@Breaking911
NEW: House Democrats have introduced a bill to give Puerto Rico statehood (H.R. 1522), which would give Democrats two more Senate seats and multiple House seats -Politico
Jeez. That was almost 75 years ago. There hasn’t been a nationalist party on the island for many, many years. And the independence movement overall is nearly dead.
Relax.
Consider this:
For every boycotter who did show up, the Democrats would simply have printed two more ballots.
You simply CANNOT win on a rigged table.
I live in Puerto Rico and have always lived here except for my time in the U.S. Army.
In the last three votes, Puerto Ricans have chosen statehood, the latest one being last November where statehood garnered 52% of the vote.
I want statehood for Puerto Rico.
Having said all that, I don’t want statehood as a Democrat scheme to increase their Congressional majorities. Not that way.
Democrats have always opposed statehood and Republicans have always supported it. Ask yourselves why. You are losing sight of what’s really going on here. Puerto Rico is a de facto state, for many reasons that can be discussed. We’re already here and we’re not going anywhere.
I don’t mean to scream but WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE IS THAT THE DEMOCRATS ARE PREEMPTING THE REPUBLICANS FROM GAINING ANY OF THE POTENTIAL SEATS FROM PUERTO RICO. They are squashing the Republican vote here. They already have a slate of Democrats and will not let any Republicans even run for the Tennessee Plan-type Congressional election that’s coming up on the island.
If Republicans were smart, they would tap into the dominant conservatism of the island. But ya’ll think that island Puerto Ricans think and vote like New York Puerto Ricans. Big mistake.
Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.
by God, you’re right. we should just quit. hide behind some mysterious, undefined, and undefeatable conspiracy. post angry snit on an internet message forum about how angry and powerless we all are.
required effort: 0.
easy enough.
Thank you for your feed back.
The Puerto Rican’s that I know seem to like that distance from being an actual state, while still being ‘de facto’ as you stated. Perhaps it’s a national pride.
So, I appreciate your perspective. We’ll see what happens.
That bill ain’t going anywhere, because both Dems and GOP are split within their own parties on the issue.

Spain had no lawful authority to cede Puerto Rico to the US.
Something tells me you know as much about the PRNP as you know about the dark side of the moon.
Personally I have a problem with European nations gifting the US other nations.
Puerto Rico like Panama and the Philippines should be independent.
To hell with democrat land grabbers.
Re: Spain - I do agree that the cession of Puerto Rico to the U.S. was done without the consent of the people at the time, since Puerto Rico was by then a full fledged Autonomous Province of Spain.
Re: Puerto Rico Nationalist Party - I’ve lived in Puerto Rico all my life except for my years in the U.S. Army. There’s no Nationalist Party to speak of in Puerto Rico and there hasn’t been since the last of the 50s Congress shooters died. You might be talking about the Puerto Rico Independence Party, which usually garners less than 5% of the vote in our elections. That one is also so dead that its maximum leader, Ruben Berrios, lives in Orlando, Florida!
Maybe the Marshall Islands, even offer Mexico and other Central American countries statehood. Hell with them you never know. Maybe Canada will want to jump in and offer each of their states as individual states!!! Hell, we are all going to be one big happy world!! Woopie, we’re all going to die, as Country Joe sang at Woodstock!! Red China is going to be the Rockwyler on the block.
Nope. It’s all done by Congress and the joining territory/possession. If PR votes to join (which I don’t believe they have yet), and Congress votes to add them, they’re in.
The protection for the states on this matter (and many other matters) was a design-function of the Senate. But, that was undone by the 17A.
Ahhh... Country Joe and the Fish... takes me back.
I doubt any PR nationalist would seek out your company much less reveal their numbers to you or any other pro-US Puerto Rican.
If the media is to be believed when the insurrectionists were pardoned by Carter they were met by a crowd of 5000 supporters upon their return to PR.
Which is nonce - if you yearn for the days of Banana Republic America, if you think an imperial republic is something attractive - then you are no friend of the Founders or the Constitution and most certainly no countryman of mine.
Thanks for your post. Having some friends from PR (great people by the way), I am a bit more aware of the workings than most and they talk often about how corrupt the government is there. In fact, one of them told me long ago that the democrat politicians there would never support statehood because it would end the corrupt gravy train if the same laws applied in Florida were applied in PR.
What are your thoughts on this?
Puerto Rico is a welfare state, just the ticket for Lefties in America...power.
This was a stolen election...I know it. Do you?...
Hell I can prove it....
Yes, corruption here is a problem. So much so that the island was basically forced into a special bankruptcy procedure, and its finances are control by a federal government-appointed fiscal supervisory board. That will remain until the island achieves control of its debt and balanced budgets for three straight years.
As for avoiding statehood to cover up corruption, right now all federal laws apply in Puerto Rico as if it were a state and are enforced frequently and consistently. So, I don’t know how would statehood would be any different in that regard.
“In the last three votes, Puerto Ricans have chosen statehood, the latest one being last November where statehood garnered 52% of the vote.”
Wow
Only 48% opposed.
I doubt the PRG ever controlled that much population.
No doubt can’t wait to lose their sovereignty for a handout from Uncle Sam.
“....and crass political concerns won’t make them look good.”
You mean like how the Dems ONLY reasons for admitting those three is TO INCREASE THE DEMOCRATS NUMBERS in the Senate, House and the electorate?
DO YOU SUPPORT D.C, PR, and Guam becoming States?
STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE OPTICS for the TREASONOUS MSM and start worrying about the U.S. irretrievably becoming the TURD (sic) WORLD COMMUNIST SHIT-HOLE.
Or are you looking forward to a violent conflagration.
