Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett authored her first ruling since joining the Court back in October and she delivered a heavy blow to a left-wing environmental group.
In the 7–2 ruling, the justices sided with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, thwarting the Sierra Club’s bid to obtain documents concerning a regulation finalized in 2014 relating to power plants.
“The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requires that federal agencies make records available to the public upon request unless those records fall within one of nine exemptions. Exemption 5 incorporates the privileges available to Government agencies in civil litigation, such as the deliberative process privilege, attorney-client privilege, and attorney work-product privilege,” Barrett wrote.

“This case concerns the deliberative process privilege, which protects from disclosure documents generated during an agency’s deliberations about a policy, as opposed to documents that embody or explain a policy that the agency adopts,” she continued.
Barrett added: “We must decide whether the privilege protects in-house drafts that proved to be the agencies’ last word about a proposal’s potential threat to endangered species. We hold that it does.”
Barrett and the court’s other five conservative justices were joined by liberal Justice Elena Kagan in the majority, with liberals Justices Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor in dissent.

So we aren’t protecting conservatism. We are protecting legal process - e.g. attorneys.

So it seems.

Our Founding Fathers would be livid with this crap.

Really, all Amy Conehead Barrett did was make it easy for government agencies to conceal their activities. Want to know who ordered the lockdown of Washington DC with tens of thousands of soldiers? None of your business. Want to know internal discussions of Biden’s gun ban? None of your business.
She is a dud, just another government hack, hired because she had the right genitalia.

The deliberations of the Fish and Wildlife Service occurred under the Obama Administration. You have to wonder if there would have been a 7-2 majority with respect to decisions made under the Trump Administration, especially with respect to agencies like the Departments of Energy and Education, which were run by Secretaries more loyal to the President than, say, the Departments of Defense and Justice, run by treacherous men like Mattis, Sessions, and Barr.

What a profile in courage. Writing a decision that was supported by Kagan and Roberts. Give her a Nobel prize.

Thomas sided with the majority, always like to know his vote:
“Barrett and the court’s other five conservative justices were joined by liberal Justice Elena Kagan in the majority, with liberals Justices Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor in dissent.”

Hmm.
A give-government-more-power-to-keep-things-secret decision.
Not that the Sierra Club is an admirable group. They’re not and have done a lot of harm to our country.

Not that I disagree with your conclusion, but there is actually a valuable principle and safeguard to protect here. Let’s say President Trump wants to have a conversation with cabinet officials and other members of the Executive branch to consider the best policy. Democrats, being who they are, would love to know every single statement made in such meetings for the sole purpose of attacking Republicans and/or Conservatives. For a similar scenario, imagine what they would do with the details of a private call between the President and, let’s say, the President of Ukraine.
A President has to be able to have candid conversations to arrive at good policy decisions. If the Dems could get every last word said, no one would say anything useful.

SCOTUS can kiss it.
The only ruling I care about is the one they WOULD NOT MAKE!
