Some restaurant owners say a new form of dine and dash is taking hold amid the pandemic.
Instead of a customers ditching the check at the end of a meal, this new form of dine and dash is being carried out via food delivery apps.
Eric Lipsky, owner of Bell’s BBQ in Henderson, said lately he has seen an increase in mistakes and issues reported through his third party delivery services. Customers get their order, then dispute the charges.
“I can’t tell whether it is a legitimate issue where we made a mistake or if someone is just trying to get a refund for the delivery service that they are using,” said Lipsky.
They’ve learned the tips and tricks and maybe realized that if they mark something as incorrect, they might be able to get their money back,” said Lipsky.
In a statement to FOX5, a Grubhub spokesperson said:
"We have no tolerance for misconduct, and if we discover that a customer is misusing our platform, we will promptly block their account. We review refund requests to determine the best course of action, which is often Grubhub providing a refund to the restaurant owner for the cost of the meal."
Lipsky said most of the time, it’s not the third party delivery services that are picking up the costs.
“As of now, one hundred percent of the mistakes for most of the services, most of the time, are being pushed on to us,” said Lipsky.
Refund requests, Lipsky said, rely on the honor system and sometimes there is no way to tell if a customer is being honest.

And...I have seen people on FR refer to Doordash drivers and such as “flunkies”.
Reminds me of a time I saved my company well more than a million dollars.
Lots of RMAs. I did a statistical analysis and noticed that quite a few of them happened 2-3 weeks after the customer supposedly received the ESD sensitive device and when they reported failure.
I figured out that they were pulling the ESD-sensitive analog device out of the box without proper ESD procedures, and eventually when you disregard ESD procedures the device fails. In this case it failed within our return-policy period.
So what we were dealing with was a buncha lying customers. I convinced my CEO to purchase the FEDEX insurance policy on shipping. So, since the device was working when we shipped it, and they claimed it failed out of the box,, that fell on the shipping company.
Lotsa refunds from Fedex, they were the ones in the position to tell the customers that they weren’t handling the devices properly, quite a few FEDEX investigations which were backed up by camera evidence of the device working. They were forced to conclude what we told them at the outset: Our customers were trying to rip us off.
Insurance rates went up 6x after that. But for a while, it was nice not having the CEO breathing down our necks for RMAs that weren’t our fault. Saved well more than 2 $million for our small company.
Too many TLAs! LOL
RMA = Return Merchandise Authorization
CEO = Chief Executive Officer
ESD = ElectroStatic Discharge
These were sensitive analog boards. Highly susceptible to damage from ESD if mishandled.
Nice
Very convincing argument you give.
(idiot)
It could be that a lot of food delivery drivers are eating for free.
The cost of food is more than their usual tips.
A little known “secret” is if you even return an unopened food item to a grocery store, they can’t restock it. Of course that’s the reputable ones.
Same to you.
I agree. Good for you.
Stupid idiot!
Seriously!
Just randomly pick a comment, and contradict it with no reasonable thought.
Dick!
It’s why I don’t grubhub
I don’t trust them
same to you
Oh, I get it now. Tell your mommy what you’ve done. You’re not supposed to be here. Either that, or grow up.
same to you
Max Americana:
Attacking people’s comments, then retreating to endless “I know you are but what am I?” pretty much sums up your lack or intelligence and knowledge. If you believed what you said, you would support it, but no, you retreat to infantile repetition.
Minimericana, you drag us all down in IQ, and probably in height.
same to you
Liberals use mindless tactics to move their agendas. Your tactics clearly label you as a liberal. “max americana” — I doubt you are really an American — probably a immigrant from a liberal country, bringing your liberal mindset. Also possibly not even a resident of the US.
“Up your nose with a rubber hose” middle americana latino?
Willing to argue your point? No, of course not. Throw a few rocks and bottles, then run and hide behind your low intelligence repetition.
max americana = mesoamericana = mexican! Fifth column!
