Sen. Ron Johnson is going to call for the Senate clerk to read the lengthy coronavirus relief bill, a reading which will take hours.
"I'm going to make the Senate clerk read the Democrats' $1.9 trillion bill. All several hundred pages of it. Then I'm going to offer amendments. Many amendments. We need to highlight the abuse. This is not a COVID relief bill. It's a boondoggle for Democrats," Johnson tweeted.
While a senator may insist a bill be read on the chamber floor, the formality is usually skipped through unanimous consent, according to The Hill. The time it takes for the bill to be read will be in addition to the 20 hours of debate time scheduled for the proposal.
"I'm told it's going to be more like 10 [hours]. It's going to occur at the beginning so it would be before the clocks starts so it doesn't go against the 20 hours, it's on top of the 20," Senate Republican Whip John Thune of South Dakota, said, according to the outlet

I remember this game. They did it with obamacare; the dems will bring in a speed reader and then laugh at the repubs. The repubs look angry and then look at the floor and we get screwed.
The Dems are going to destroy the economy with these multi trillion dollar pork packages wrapped up in the veneer of Covid relief.
Fine.
Insist the speed reader read it with a double mask on per the CDC (this is about COVID-19, after all).
Then object because the reader is unintelligible due to the masks and that the speaking pace is too fast to read along with in order to verify that every single word of the bill is, in fact, being read.
Also challenge sections as incorrectly read and demand re-reads. Make sure they are long sections.

Good for Johnson! Make him read it through completely & then tell them to stuff it. I’m pretty sure the Senate clerk is a Democrat & they need to know loud & clear what people think of this pork-laden bill.

I have a home in Sister Bay, was there last week. The place is booming with development. It’s like another world, a very pleasant respite. No crime, lots of fine people.
Read the damned bill and then drop a copy of it on the heads of every Democrat in the Senate. Don’t think it will cause any real damage but would make a great video for our morale.
We used to go camping out on the peninsula in the summer.
We got nothing from the last covid stimulus bill and will get nothing from this one. Husband said “We get to pay for it’. Penalized for making a decent living. We only got a paltry portion of the first stim bill. We are not rich. We would be giving it to family members who need it but uncle sam thinks we don’t “need” it.
