“Get woke, go broke”, is a conservative meme about the cost of political correctness that has it the wrong way around. Brands don’t go broke because they get woke, they go woke because they’re going broke, and don’t know how to stop the slow but steady collapse of their business.

Coke market is disappearing
Woke is a joke.
I am so tired of TV commercials that show gay and interracial couples in numbers that are way out of sync with reality. Yes, I realize both exist, but not to the extent ads are trying to convey. They’re doing the same thing with TV shows. It seems you can’t have a new show without an interracial or gay couple. If they want to show such couples, at lest do it in a proportion that reflects their actual numbers in society.
Mexican coke is better
Good point. Haven’t watched the programming in 8+ years.
Add to that any white, presumably heterosexual males are often portrayed as either bad guys or buffoons. I have thick skin, it doesn’t bother me, but current marketing is all about virtue signaling.
“Mexican coke is better”
Old fashioned Cane sugar. Not the high fructose corn crap.
Great T-shirt idea...
I gave up the NFL cold turkey.
WokaCola, no biggie.
Woka-Cola is going to have to choose a color other than white for their logo.
Woka-Cola needs to be less white.
My son and daughter are poster kids for this article: they won’t let their kids drink soft drinks.
Excellent piece by Greenfield. Thanks for posting.
Big businesses are run very stupidly these days. MBA’s that all learned the same techniques and thought processes abound. Coke is losing it’s market share simply because the market is shifting. Going woke - as Greenfield points out - is a desperate move because the can’t come up with any other good ideas. Coke should of moved into the booze market 20 years ago.
I have been watching the History channel’s series The Foods that Built America (Season 2). I am struck with how many of the pioneers in the food industry were driven by their personality and dedication to their dream - sometimes to failure but often to success. The McDonald brothers sold out for $2.5 mill. A fortune in 1950’s but it is still a question if they would of been successful without the determination and iron fist that Kroc brought to the operation.
Cane sugar.
I gave up NASCAR cold turkey. I’m currently on a business trip just a few miles from the Richard Petty Historical Landmark.
I really want to go see it but I’m not going to. His (former) driver was a large part of my final straw.
I do not remember the last time I bought a coke. Whenever I bought it, it was my last one.
I record everything on the DVR and buzz through commercials. Although I’ve gone weeks without watching TV. I’ve got better things to do.
Then explain Apple being so woke.
the same is true with the black population who percent of the population hasn’t changed much in a 100 years (about 13%). But you would think they are nearly 50% based on movies.
