That's not an answer. Where does the electricity that charges the vehicle come from? It's not "magic" ... and it just doesn't exist on the grid. It has to get there somehow.

BTW, what about all the parts in the electric vehicle that are made from plastic, which comes from petroleum? Are those plastic parts no longer needed and if not, where will those come from? Trees? The environmentalists won't let that happen. Glass? Too fragile. So where?

That is an answer.

Texas could have drawn on electricity generated in other parts of the country. Florida,Texas, new mexico etc could be generating electricity in normal times from solar and selling it to the rest of the country.

Plastic will continue to be a use for petroleum, only now it will e cheaper.
