” a mandatory 2 cents per mile road usage charge for electric cars and plug-in hybrids.”
it’s only for electric cars aka rolling appliances so why should I care. Make it $3 each mile. That’ll show us gas guzzlers we’re evil s/
Because it is only a stepping stone. First, you tax the rich and then they come for you.
You should care because, once they have it, a stroke-of-the-pen will make it for all vehicles.
I guarantee you they plan on doing that. They are just counting on people like you cheering them on because why should you care?
Once that is accepted, they will move on to a "mileage surcharge" for gas/diesel vehicles - for "road maintenance" (cough).

Agreed. Call it a “smug tax.”
It shouldn’t be that hard to roll back the mileage on the odometer. “Wow, I better see the mechanic, that’s terrible mileage.” GPS? There’s bound to be a way— new government impositions spur automotive innovation. Now it’s a morally obligatory to evade our overlord’s directives.
