Mayor Jim Kenney (D) is responding to Philadelphia’s surge in gun violence by pushing for more gun control laws.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports “294 people” have already been shot in Philadelphia this year, with 76 individuals dying.
Kenney blames the violence on what he views as a lack of gun control.
He said, “We must stop the unabated flow of guns into our city.”
Kenney is interested in laws requiring stolen guns to be reported within a set period of time, licensing requirements for gun owners, and limits on the number of guns Philadelphia residents can purchase.
He claimed such laws are “commonplace” elsewhere and “do not violate the Second Amendment.”
Kenney has taken this approach to gun violence before, calling for more gun control as a solution.
USA Today noted Kenney pushed for more gun control after Maurice Hill allegedly opened fire on Philadelphia police on August 13, 2019. Police were serving a narcotics warrant when Hill allegedly began shooting.
Kenney pushed for more gun control, saying, “Our officers deserve to be protected and they don’t deserve to be shot at by a guy, for hours, with an unlimited supply of weapons and an unlimited supply of bullets. It’s disgusting. And we’ve got to do something about it.”
Delaware Online noted Hill was “a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal record.” Felons are already barred from firearm possession, yet Kenney pushed for more gun control.

Sure, balme an inanimate object. Pure genuis Mayor. How about having the courage to point directly to the humans doing the violence?
My dark side says the thugs need more training to lessen collateral damage but the other side prays for the families that are affected and those innocents that die because of these thugs.
Philly needs stop and frisk. Immediately.
Proper gun control training in using two hands and calmly squeezing the trigger would result in even more deaths unlike now as the wildly spraying rounds don't really hit even more of the intended targets.
Many hit 3 year old black children in their kitchen or old black ladies coming back from the store and finding themselves on a sidewalk between aggressive "teens" shooting at each other. Removing more guns from lawful, decent families will NOT mean the teens, criminals and gangs will calmly leave their guns at the police stations. No way.
Criminal control, gang control and teen control will all be called "racisss".
I believe Philadelphia is one of those cities were George Soros financed a Prosecuting Attorney’s campaign, like LA, SFO, Chicago, St.Louis and others...
The end result, skyrocketing crime and calls for further erosion of the Constitution rights of law abiding citizens.
Because, as we have seen in Leftist controlled 3rd World Urban Sh*tholes for the last 40 years that have draconian gun laws, that works oh-so-well.

I am all for giving everyone guns there who wants them, and pulling the police out (Defunding them in that area, or send them to places that appreciate them!) to let them work it all out.
Once an equilibrium has been reached, send law enforcement back in and begin really enforcing the law.
Chicago has a literacy crisis with many dropouts and even graduates who cannot read well enough to function in modern society. They cannot read the Gun Free Zone signs.

The logic of gun control disarming criminals is just mind boggling.
The reason criminals are criminals is that they have access to illegal guns that will never be limited or registered.
Yes, because stringent gun control has been so successful in reducing violent crime. So we must have more of it! Typical progressive response: when a policy fails utterly, you just need more of it to be a success.
