Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis rallied a crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) to fight the “failed Republican establishment,” highlighting the ongoing battle over the direction of the GOP in the wake of former President Trump’s electoral defeat.
In opening remarks on the second day of CPAC, DeSantis cast himself as an acolyte of Trump and his brand of conservative populism, echoing the former president’s attacks on “open borders,” foreign labor and “military adventurism.”
In doing so, DeSantis previewed a fight to prevent the resurgence of the so-called establishment Republicans, who have challenged Trump’s vision for the party.
“Florida’s leading on the issues that matter to conservatives,” DeSantis said. “We don't spout hollow rhetoric. We take decisive action.”
“We cannot, we will not, go back to the days of the failed Republican establishment of yesteryear,” he continued. “We reject open borders and instead support American sovereignty and the American worker. Building a movement on amnesty and cheap foreign labor is like building a house on a field of quicksand.”

Apparently, he didn’t consult with Mitt Romney or John Kasich or Ben Sasse or Liz Cheney before his speech. GOOD! If it isn’t Trump at the top of the ticket in 2024, I could be comfortable with DeSantis.
Did anybody mention cleaning up election fraud???!!!
My bad, I thought DeSantis had said that, but it was Max Greenwood saying that. 8>)
And the “establishment” he derides hasn’t voted Republican as President in over 10 years and hasn’t voted for a Republican who won in at least 15 years if not longer.
Or Noem/DeSantis. Either way they're winners.
Although I believe Ron has the edge in policy having been a House member.
Great post. Every word is true.
Yes. True.
Lack of allowed legal standing to work through evidence pro and con in the courts does not mean our side was wrong---merely that we were denied a fair hearing in the system of justice.
GOP elitists at cocktail parties had better remember they still depend on us to allow them to "serve the people" in office. They could be hoping for a panel slot on TV news while out of office if they aren't careful. Jeb,Mitt,Kasich and Chris Chrsitie can say "everybody at this country club knows we are happy to be rid of Trump."
I wish our governor in AL acted a little more like him regarding COVID. She is beyond useless.
Agreed, though she’s the elder, I think has more charm, and would pull in more GOP voters without losing an inch of the base. He has experience running a much larger state, however.
DeSantis is the real deal.
Nimrata Randhawa (Nikki Haley) does not have a prayer at being President
or VP. Noem has moved up the food chain instead.
DeSantis is sharper. He really owns the media in every hostile encounter, and with facts more than insults.
Noem sometimes gives a deer in the headlights look.
May well be. Harvard Law, no?
DeSantis looking good... So glad we’re heading to Fla. in a few years... Wife is looking at properties in the Lower Keys next month... Swimming everyday...
He wasn’t defeated, he was cheated.
By BOTH parties.
The Democrats could not have stolen the election without the assistance of the GOP.

Precisely so!
Correct. Methinks Nikki died a political death.
Noem sometimes gives a deer in the headlights look.

I would never vote to elect a woman, even an acknowledged patriot, to an office where irrational decisions might result in an existential threat to my country. Oh, and being called out for gender prejudice doesn’t bother me at all.
Meanwhile the senate leader McConnell has taken at least a $25 million bribe from the communists using his father-in-law as a shield. He should never have been allowed in office let alone senate leader.
