Stacey Abrams, whose voting rights work helped make Georgia into a swing state, exhorted Congress on Thursday to reject “outright lies” that have historically restricted access to the ballot as Democrats began their push for a sweeping overhaul of election and ethics laws.
“A lie cloaked in the seductive appeal of election integrity has weakened access to democracy for millions,” Abrams, a Democrat who narrowly lost Georgia’s 2018 gubernatorial race, said during a committee hearing for the bill, which was introduced as H.R. 1 to signal its importance to the party’s agenda.
Citing Congress’ constitutional authority to set the time, place and manner of federal elections, Democrats want national rules that they say would make voting more uniform, accessible and fair across the nation. The bill would stymie state GOP efforts by mandating early voting, same-day registration and other long-sought reforms that Republicans reject.
The 791-page measure, which was first introduced two years ago, would also require dark money political groups to disclose anonymous donors, as well as create reporting requirements for online political ads. It would appropriate nearly $2 billion for election infrastructure upgrades. And in a rearview nod at Trump, it would obligate presidents to disclose their tax returns.
Given the closing window to pass legislation before 2022, many in the party remain hopeful it will be signed into law by Biden, whose administration has said the bill is a priority.
“We may not get the opportunity to make this change again for many, many decades, so let’s not miss that window,” said John Sarbanes, a Maryland Democrat who is the bill’s lead sponsor. “Shame on us if we don’t get this done.”

The “image’ of the Left as an honest political wing in the USA has been driven by the media.
Since 1984 the control of media outlets has dropped from over 50 different organizations to just 6 today. The product of that consolidation is an ILLUSION of a “powerful Left wing”, a manufactured progressive consensus that has usurped political power it has no business with honestly. “honest” votes for Biden/the Left were 30-35 million. At most.
The problems originate in corrupted, local electoral precincts in deep Blue urban centers. These NEED to be cleaned. Nobody desires the dirty job. Part of “redistricting” projects, BTW, is to create regions and social environments permitting unfettered and unhindered electoral Fraud.
Think parts of cities where Republicans fear to tread. No bipartisan voting observers. If any Republican observers, or even voters show up,they are threatened. This is the beginning process of turning a Red state Purple.

What the left has done, ever since the 1984 Reagan-Mondale blowout - (and Mondale was a “moderate” Democrat!) - is to start electoral fraud programs in the largest states to turn them from Red-to-Purple-to Blue. They realized they had no future otherwise. It started in California and New York.
This last election cycle local Texans managed to turn it around at the precinct level-their RINO Governor not withstanding.
Extreme involvement in your local precincts and making sure paper balloting on ELECTION DAY, with hand counts and recounts in a transparent fashion and setting with open audit trails available to the general public, among other measures-are key.

If the Republicans can be bothered to take it that far, most of HR1 could be ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Even if you have no faith in the SC doing so, Republicans should at least make an effort.
And if necessary, Roberts and SCOTUS would quickly intervene to grant certiorari, and likely vote within a few days, ruling the totalitarian Democrat law was the law of the land.
Simply put, most members of our government are either dedicated to, or are being forced to push global socialist governance.
And the US Constitution cannot be allowed to hold up the process. It is the single greatest obstacle to global totalitarianism in the world.
Elections are one day and in person voting. Deal with it Democrats. You need to win elections ON election day.
