Conservatives go after Cheney for Trump CPAC remarks

House conservatives are renewing their calls for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) to step down from her leadership post after she split with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) over whether former President Trump should speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

House Freedom Caucus members are going after Cheney, chair of the House Republican Conference, following an awkward moment during a press conference Wednesday with the House GOP leader. Just moments after McCarthy said he thought Trump should speak at the CPAC gathering this weekend in Florida, Cheney reiterated her position that she does not think the former president should have a place in the Republican Party because of his role in the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

"That was one of the most outrageous statements, but it's consistent with at least four other statements she's made in the last few weeks. As you know, some of us in this group led a charge to remove Ms. Cheney as the chairwoman leader of the Republican conference. I do not believe she is able to carry that out any further," House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) said at a press conference on Thursday.

"I also think she's absolutely devoid of any kind of political reading of what's going on in the Republican Party in this country right now," he added. "My guess is there's probably no room in the party for somebody who takes the positions that Ms. Cheney does and that makes the accusations that she does. She should step down - if she had any sense of shame, she would step down."

Cheney is obviously sending signals to an audience that does not include voters, because politicians, as Biden said, no longer need voters. Now, politicians only need the right vote counters.

I don’t understand how she thinks Trump’s movement is over.

These Republicans are like the Japanese on the island who still think WWII is in progress. Her brand of Republicanism is obsolete. I mean just look at Nikki Haley. She thought she could do the usual swamp Republican move where she disses Trump and then quietly tries to worm her way back in.

Trump's biggest legacy was ripping off the phony facade that was the 2 party system.

deadly insurrection

Lol. The only actual violent death was caused by a government employee shooting an unarmed woman in the neck.

Perhaps her handlers have already contracted with Dominion for 2022...

We need to stop electing the spawn of politicians just because they share a name.
No more nepotism.

I heard on the radio today that the GOP Congressman for Jacksonville, FL., John Rutherford, admitted he voted to keep Lizard Cheney in leadership. He’s gotta go. Period.

She represents No One beyond [0bama-land ] Teton County, Wyo.

On the contrary. She is in leadership and 2/3 of the House GOP conference supports her being there. Many of those votes for Lizard are coming from very conservative districts. All these Quislings need to be removed from office.

We have to primary her. If the establishment saves her in the primary, we have to elect her Democrat opponent. It is essential we punish all of the Traitor Ten in the House. We can not be blackmailed with some “gotta re-elect her or else” ultimatum. Call their bluff.

These foolish lifetime politicians are totally divorced from anything that isn't their traditional political theater. They are incapable of seeing that trump is not a machiavellian political power player. He is a deal maker. To make deals you need people who (1) can be relied on to do what they promise and (2) don't cheat or double-cross you. That translates to people who are trustworthy, loyal, and honest. Sadly such types are almost entirely absent in DC, to the extent that swamp creatures don't even understand that such people can exist.

Taking a job from Trump, then later trashing him, and then asking for his support is the epitome of someone who has no loyalty or honesty. He seems to forgive a single lapse but multiple ones get under his skin quicky. She took it too far.

Lizard is counting on Democrat votes in the primary and conservative votes in the general election.

The GOP establishment has no problem using Democrats to defeat conservatives. It’s way past time we play by GOPe rules and remove them by any means necessary. If that means electing a few Democrats so be.

Until the GOP fears the base nothing will change.

My point was that she, as a rep, doesn’t represent any of Wyoming beyond Jackson “hole” [Teton County].

She may have ALL sorts of power beyond Wyoming [much like the Tiny Tom Daschle slayer John Thune has beyond So. Dak.]

Both of these GOPeers are treading on thin ice should they want to remain in DC rather than being returning to “home” in 2022.

From the perspective of the party she pays dues to, she’s totally counter-productive. She should be focusing her fire on the current administration. Trump has plenty of opponents already. He’d be a good contrast to Biden and could put a lot of pressure on swing district Democrats that would cool their legislative agenda.

She is contributing to further divisions in the country. Traditionally speaking, almost any group would be honored to have a former POTUS speak. Only by today’s standards - which are totally devoid of reason - would someone NOT want a speech by a POTUS.
