A farmer in northern B.C. who caught a lynx in his chicken coop on Sunday didn't react the way one might expect. He didn't grab a gun or yell at the wild animal.
Instead, Chris Paulson grabbed the lynx by the scruff of its neck, lifted it off the ground and scooped it from the coop.
Then he gave it a gentle scolding.
"He just looked ... a bit like [a kid] with its hand in the chocolate chip bag," Paulson told CBC News from his home near Decker Lake, west of Prince George.
Although, to be fair, it looks like a pretty young cat...
Oh, you’re taking me to the chickens for another round? Why, thank you, nice man.

I was in Ontario on a bear hunt...Two of us were following bear tracks up a dirt road to see where the bear went off the road and we would turn our dogs loose...We were standing and talking to each other and noticed others in our hunting group were waving and pointing, acting all excited...
We walked back to them and they said “Didn’t you see that???” Of course, we asked what and they said a Lynx crossed the road no more than 10-15 feet behind us...
We never knew it....
Try that with a bobcat and your shredded arse will be handed to you.
There is a constellation named Lynx which has no stars which are very bright. It's not one of the ancient constellations but was created in early modern times. Supposedly its creator said that you would need the eyesight of a lynx to see any of the stars in the constellation.
“...Try that with a bobcat and your shredded arse will be handed to you...”
Oh, trust me, I know first-hand. Back in my keeper days, I used to have a handraised bobcat as a pet for a few years. Even tame ones can get pretty feisty. There’s also a fellow up in Montana with a youtube channel, who has a female bob named Zya, and she’s feisty enough to smack around the local wild bob tom, when her human slave has her out for a walk.
Had a bobcat hanging around for the last week or so. Went out Sunday night about 9:00pm in the driveway looking for eye shine up in the woods and saw him walking down some stone steps by a well we have about 30’ from me. I hollered with a “what the hell?” and he just looked and kept walking. Beautiful animal though.
Haha, I have no experience, but glad it worked.
"Oh but they're such beautiful animals"
No they're not - sentimental idiot.
Bad kitty now scat!
“...Bad kitty now scat!”
That is precisely what the chickens it ate will be the day after it ate them. :P
The conservation officer said while some people may think what happened was preferable to shooting and killing the lynx, “it is technically illegal to capture live wildlife and move them to a new location and can result in a fine.”
Next time, shoot it.
It goes to show us the power of “scruffing” by the neck in order to immobilize a cat.
The freezing while being scruffed is instinctive behavior for a kitten when the mama scruffs/carries the kitten in its mouth. That instinctive reaction to neck scruffing——freezing—continues after the kitten grows up. Veterinarians understand the value of very firm scruffing, they use that technique all the time to immobilize angry kitty patients.
But I’m surprised how compliant this lynx was, that’s one d@mn big cat!!
I am sure there has to be a Jerry Clower joke in there somewhere.
One of them has to get some relief!
That Darned Cat!! Part IV.
We have a Bobcat that hangs out frequently at our Colorado mountain home. He just stares at me, fearlessly, like some neighbor kitty. I’m sure he’s plotting something evil. Very pretty boy, though.
It looks like a fairly young cat, and it probably had a really full belly, so both of those things might have helped.
