Ted Cruz invited his college roommate from Princeton and Harvard Law to join him and his family on their Cancun vacation, it has been revealed.
The Texas Senator flew to Mexico last Wednesday afternoon with his wife Heidi and their two daughters, aged 10 and 12, while millions in their home state struggled without power, heat and water.
He flew back the next day amid outcry over the trip, and defended it by saying he was just being a 'good dad' and appeasing his 'girls', who'd asked if they could jet somewhere warm while Texas froze.
After planning the trip apparently at the last minute, Cruz also invited his David Panton, his roommate from Princeton and Harvard Law, who lives in Atlanta and works in private equity.
Panton accepted and flew to Cancun, where he also got a room at The Ritz-Carlton, Axios has revealed.
It's unclear when he flew back. Panton grew up in Jamaica before attending college in the US.
He and Cruz graduated from Princeton in 1992 and from Harvard Law in 1995.
It comes after text messages show how Heidi Cruz told neighbors and friends that they were 'escaping' the 'freezing' temperatures.
She asked the others in a group text for women who live on their Houston street if they too could get away.
The family also left behind their poodle, Snowflake.
The trip and his attempts to defend it have been a PR disaster for the Senator.
Since returning last Thursday, Cruz has been working overtime to mend his image and tackle the ongoing crisis in Texas.
Over the weekend, he served barbecue to first responders in Houston to 'thank them' for their work.

Wait, it’s such a blistering cold in Texas, that cops are just wearing the standard t-shirt and pants uniform? Cruz himself is in jeans and a sweatshirt? I thought it was 10 degrees down there? Something isn’t adding up.
What you believe and real life are totally different from each other.
What you believe is of no consequence whatsoever.
“ Except Bloomberg was the mayor of New York at the time, with direct responsibility and Ted Cruz does NOT have direct or indirect responsibility for electricity in Texas.“
Many don’t see the issue as Ted Cruz being responsible or not. One- he is a republican so, whether we want to continue pretending democrats will come around and be logical mature adults and treat republicans and democrats Equally or not republicans are treated differently from democrats
Two. It is just not going to compute that a senator from Texas can skip town via the airport during a hurricane level disaster. During the deadly disaster.
It is just not going to be seen as ok. That’s all.
The subzero temperatures faded really quickly and rose into the 60s and 70s.
Go to their home page and search for "Cuomo." They've run several articles on the subject>
Stories just from today:
What a scumbag. Trump was right about him. What a liar. FR is correct to be anti-Cruz for these last four years.
He was a phony then and a phony now.
This offends liberals but Coumo shipping old people to die in nursing homes and leaving their state after telling the peasants to stay home is ok. PA had the sec of health pull his/her mom out of a nursing home while ordering old people into them. This is freaking insanity.
Nope.
You were a phony then and now.
Don’t project.
He would have taken a vacation in his native country but Canada isn’t letting Americans in right now.
Since when is it okay to pile on Cruz for doing something for his young family (which should always be his first priority) and totally ignore Biden”s lame response to the Texas crisis because it’s his nap time? I don’t get it. having said that, those who are criticizing some for bad behavior while ignoring far worse behavior by others are blinded by their ideology.
I was talking about the many different versions of the story that he and his office have released.
Why is he constantly admitting he “made a mistake” if he did nothing wrong? Is he lying about making a mistake or is he just another spineless
Republican?
I don’t f-ing care. He has no part to play in the disaster so just drop it for crying out loud!
cruz - the latest biden hate transference surrogate for his total ignoring of texas
cruz made it very easy for them, he was an idiot
but to lump it on a senator versus the president in terms of who has response powers for this type of event,....
Just another episode of divide & conquer.
I don't like the guy personally, but how many lies has Biden been caught in? I'm sick and tired of Republicans being held to a different standard than Dems. I won't get on the "thump Cruz" bandwagon. Who am I to judge him? I have Gillibrand, Schumer and Cuomo here, and they're all worse than Cruz could ever be.
So ?
