Ted Cruz invited his college roommate from Princeton and Harvard Law to join him and his family on their Cancun vacation, it has been revealed.
The Texas Senator flew to Mexico last Wednesday afternoon with his wife Heidi and their two daughters, aged 10 and 12, while millions in their home state struggled without power, heat and water.
He flew back the next day amid outcry over the trip, and defended it by saying he was just being a 'good dad' and appeasing his 'girls', who'd asked if they could jet somewhere warm while Texas froze.
After planning the trip apparently at the last minute, Cruz also invited his David Panton, his roommate from Princeton and Harvard Law, who lives in Atlanta and works in private equity.
Panton accepted and flew to Cancun, where he also got a room at The Ritz-Carlton, Axios has revealed.
It's unclear when he flew back. Panton grew up in Jamaica before attending college in the US.
He and Cruz graduated from Princeton in 1992 and from Harvard Law in 1995.
It comes after text messages show how Heidi Cruz told neighbors and friends that they were 'escaping' the 'freezing' temperatures.
She asked the others in a group text for women who live on their Houston street if they too could get away.
The family also left behind their poodle, Snowflake.
The trip and his attempts to defend it have been a PR disaster for the Senator.
Since returning last Thursday, Cruz has been working overtime to mend his image and tackle the ongoing crisis in Texas.
Over the weekend, he served barbecue to first responders in Houston to 'thank them' for their work.

Served some delicious #Houston bbq to @FirefightersHOU, @IAFFNewsDesk, & local law enforcement yesterday with @TheNew93Q to thank our first responders following these unprecedented snow storms. pic.twitter.com/vn396kTgFR— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) February 21, 2021
so the plot thickens, lol...for a guy who is very smart, he sure did something foolish and stupid..let them eat cake..
Dumb move politically, but who cares.
I wonder why the Daily Mail is so obsessed with this piece of news which has little to no national significance, while totally ignoring news like Andrew Cuomo’s criminal neglect of the Covid-19 infected Elderly by putting them in ill-equipped nursing homes causing nearly 15,000 to die alone and without family members near them.
He’s not in disgrace you stupid British a$$holes.
Well that’s a little weird. Who invites their college roommate along on a family vacation at age 50?
Thank you! The fall of the MSM to ignore Prince Andrew’s genocide is nauseating.
Serving BBQ to friends is now a crime in America?
According to the British Daily Mail anyways.
Come join the Ted Cruz pig pile, folks.
I do.
And the problem is?
But they sure did stuff a whole lot of bias-y goodness into this hot piece, didn’t they?
Must be nice to be able to invite your friends and neighbors to see if if they too want to jet off to some tropical venue at the drop of hat, because the weather sucks.
These people clearly don’t live in the real world.
“Returning in disgrace”?? A senator doesn’t run the State, the governor does. Well what he did was stupid, he didn’t “return in disgrace”. I wonder if the media ever said after Chappaquiddick that Ted Kennedy “returned in disgrace” or that Gov. Cuomo “returned in disgrace” or that any of the Russian collusion conspirators “returned in disgrace”. I bet not.
BTW, the temperature here in Houston is going to top out at 72° today with an overnight low of about 46-48°. What a difference a week makes.
True. For a man who very smart. And a sharp lawyer he seems to be tone deaf. Maybe he should practice law and let Abbott appoint his replacement.
Another no drama drama in the world of politics.
It serves as a convenient bright shiny object to deflect from Cuomo’s criminality.
My guess is that a lot of Texans of Mexican descent were pleased that Cruz went to Mexico for his vacation.
Why are we still talking about Senator Cruz?
Why are we not talking about the DOE and Biden’s appointees?
