Thune decries ‘cancel culture’ against Republicans who voted to convict Trump amid uncertain Senate GOP future
Fox News ^ | Feb 19,2021 | Tyler Olson

Sen. John Thune, a top ally to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, said that those aiming to punish senators who voted to convict former President Donald Trump at his impeachment trial are engaging in "cancel culture."

"There was a strong case made," Thune told the Associated Press about the House impeachment managers' arguments. "People could come to different conclusions. If we’re going to criticize the media and the left for cancel culture, we can’t be doing that ourselves."

Trump in his lengthy statement this week also said, "[w]here necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great again and our policy of America first."

Thune Thursday pushed back, warning that if Republicans run a lot of candidates closely-aligned with the former president then they may end up sacrificing winnable seats. Many Republicans are still upset after Tea Party-backed candidates won elections during former President Barack Obama's first term, only to lose what some felt were otherwise winnable seats in the general election.

"At the grassroots level, there’s a lot of people who want to see Trump-like candidates," Thune said. "But I think we’re going to be looking for candidates that are electable." The statement from Thune, R-S.D., the Senate minority whip, is one of the most high-profile comments on the internal rift in the Senate GOP since Trump released a scathing and extremely personal statement lambasting McConnell, R-Ky., earlier this week. The former president called McConnell "a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack" and said "if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again." McConnell hasn't responded.

Thune's interview also comes as state and local Republican parties across the country have taken action against their senators who voted to convict Trump.

-- I think Thune is choosing those words because conservatives tend to detest Cancel Culture as a bridge too far. --

Exactly. It's manipulative. Not that there is anything wroing with that, I just wish people were more independent thinkers and recognize that they (me included) can be misled by imprecise rhetoric, not just by outright falsehood.

The press and politicians are experts at misleading.

So now I’m part of the “cancel culture” because I don’t want McConnell, Haily, et al., to be political leaders?

(I would not, however, demand that they not be seated at table near mine should we happen to be dining at the same restaurant at the same time.)

It is not cancel culture to kick traitors acting like democrats out of the Republican Party.

It is common sense.

Cancel Thune. We cannot go forward with the Reppublican Party. McConnell et al will fight hard against conservative candidates in 22, preferring Democrats to nonMcC-approved corporate Republicans. A new Party may not win either given the ironclad Democrat control of the voting and vote counting process but we will not be giving our approval to the Republican subsidiary of the Democrat party.

And what exactly does Thune think McConnell was doing in his post-impeachment-vote rant against Trump, if not practicing “cancel culture”??

Did McConnell vote in favor of the impeachment charge? No. But, instead he practiced the hypocrisy of the cancel culture by trying to have it both ways - voting against the impeachment charge but then using a media-loved anti-Trump rant to impeach Trump in the public mind.

There was literally NO case made. They made a fake video with bits and pieces out of context. This alone tells us the strength of their “case”.

This disgusting POS is as bad as any Democrat. Thune has been complicate in covering up election fraud and trying to cancel Trump by falsely claiming he incited the Capitol Building riot.

His approval numbers deserve to be as low as McConnell's.

“No more nose-holding. If that means losing the seat for a few cycles, so be it”.

Keep it up. You’ll end up with a Roy Moore or Sheriff Arpaio-seat gone for 6 years. You STILL have to have the best people SHOW UP. Nobody noteworthy is ready to take him on based on his disdain for Trump. Concentrate on recruitment 5 states(NH, Oh., Penn, Az.,NC) for starters. Next do something about Murkowski. Sarah’s it. If she doesn’t step up all the anger in the world toward Thune won’t change anything. Use your head.

There are some noteworthy but your not going to much about them due to the media black out and fake smears .
Many favor Trump and his ways they will appear it’s all a matter of timing and events look how Trump appeared so fast and so strong.
