‘Wanted to Be a Good Dad’: Ted Cruz Responds to Criticism He Traveled to Cancun Amid Texas Power Crisis
The Epoch Times ^ | 2/18/21 | Jack Phillips

Posted on 02/18/2021 3:01:21 PM PST by Bearshouse

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded to allegations that he flew to Cancun, Mexico, in the midst of record cold temperatures and snowfall in Texas—which has been besieged by power outages over the past several days.

Cruz appeared to confirm that he went to Cancun, saying that “with school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”

“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas,” he said in a statement on Thursday, referring to the power outages and, in some cases, loss of water.

"They could give a damn about some politician saying he cares."

I'm pretty sure many of them would give a damn about some politician saying he doesn't care...which is effectively what Cruz has done.

No it is not. And you just keep keep repeating vague dribble and not offering any real world concrete solutions or actions that Cruz could have done. What a surprise - NOT.

I did up thread, but you have demonstrated a lack of ability
to grasp simple concepts. I’m not inclined to waste my time
on you.

Good luck straightening Ted out.

No one I know gives a damn what any politician feels or thinks that can’t directly help them. You really don’t get if you think all the people with out electric or water are worrying about that right now. They don’t.

“DONT MESS WITH TEXAS” except if you are a snow storm.

I thought Texas was the great bastion of manliness where really men could fix things themselves, had unmanicured hands that look like they did work, legs that could fill out jeans, and a ruggedness that made a woman feel like a woman?

All this whining reminds me of California.

Guess I’m gonna have to stop reading the Texas Cowboy subgenre of romance novels.

Well then perhaps Cruz ought to get busy doing things to directly help his constituents.

1. Has Cruz conducted any coordination with the Governor of Texas or Texas State agencies asking if he could provide any intervention on behalf of the state he is supposed to be representing in DC?

2. Has Cruz spoken to any of the Texas House delegation to get a better understanding of specific issues in their respective districts so he has a more comprehensive understanding of the problems impacting different parts of the state so he can better represent the state as a whole?

3. Has Cruz made any written or telephonic inquiries to the White House or FEMA regarding what appears to be their complete inaction?

4. Has Cruz sought any national media outlet so he can discuss the problems in Texas and apparent inactions, delays or obstacles for assistance that have been put in place by the executive branch?

5. Has Cruz volunteered to offer any time with any relief agencies? We know damn well in the past he was able to go to the border to distribute teddy bears and soccer balls to Mexican kids. Perhaps he could find some time to hand out blankets or serve soup to American kids in Texas.

The office of a United States Senator, while technically a legislative (and oversight) position, has the ability to exert a lot of influence on officials at the state and local levels.

The only thing Cruz has managed to accomplish so far in this fiasco is to star in campaign ads for his 2024 opponent, when he could have been burnishing his own ads and actually helping the people of the State he was elected to serve.

You are confused about who does or should do those things. Cruz should not just flail away in all directions just so you think he is doing something helpful.

"Cruz should not just flail away in all directions just so you think he is doing something helpful"

Perception is reality. What I think means nothing. Frankly What Cruz thinks means nothing. Cruz's political future is entirely contingent on the perceptions of Texas voters. There are a lot of things Cruz could do to burnish those perceptions and he is not.

While I'm not a fan of the 17th Amendment, it is what stands, and consequently one of the unwritten, implied requirements for a popularly elected senator is sufficient popularity to be elected. Can't sit in the seat without it. Like I said, if Cruz can run to the border to hand out teddy bears to foreigners, he can certainly find time to spend an afternoon in a shelter ladeling soup or handing out blankets to Americans.

So far, the only person Cruz has been helping is his yet unnamed opponent for 2024.

All those you are so concerned about being offended by this fake scandal did not vote for Cruz and would not in the future. They voted for Beto. He’s their type.

Welllll!!

* The Dems wanted to get Cruz out of the Senate and now that he left, they bitch about him doing what they wanted. /sarc

* I’d want to see that my daughter and friends were in a SAFE place in Cancun given its history of a high crime and murder rate as Mexican cartel gangs shoot up the place like it was 1930’s Chicago.

* The governor and his staff and this group ERCOT are in charge of in-state emergencies. Cruz is not an electrical energy expert but as he said, he has a “staff” to keep him informed on current issues and to act as a means of communication with state officials.

[I was a congressional staffer whose job included taking calls from the congressman’s wife as to where he was in travelling by car back to his home district in Florida from DC. His legislative aide did the same thing. That’s the way things work].

If the EPA/DOE were so concerned about Texas having a secure working energy system, they wouldn’t have let them have so many wind turbine towers (aka Bird Sushi/Cooked Aviary Carry Out shops) out in the wind corridors which didn’t have any wind or sun.

To the Epoch Times writer, Cruz SAID that he went to Cancun, not that “Cruz appeared to confirm”. Stop this juvenile, amateurish writer or get out of the business.
I hate amateurs.

Cruz won by a way-too-close margin in 2018. He’s fighting an uphill battle in a state that Dems are desperate to turn blue. We don’t need any more fuel added to that fire. But he sure gave it to them.

Not true. I voted for Cruz despite his refusal to Support Trump at the GOP convention, blaming Trump for the Chicago Rally Riots, giving out Teddy Bears and Pobrecitos to illegal immigrant kids, his Dominionist religious beliefs, and his general arrogance.

They are out of clean panties. Every pipe in the house is frozen or cracked, and the washing machine won’t turn on.

Cruz won by a way-too-close margin in 2018.

Trump voters were fat and happy and stayed home and the anti-Trump votes were crazed to come come out and vote. Plus the democrats poured something like 80 million dollars into Beto's campaign. Thinking those two things will be the same the next election show is silly. In 2024 Crux will be running in a presidential election year and POTUS voters will be out in strength. His opponent will not have a huge amount of money since RAT money will be getting spread far and wide.
