Considering NASA sent the two Viking Landers to Mars in 1975 it is indeed an achievement.

It was amazing to see all the women and people with accents that were on the NASA/JPL project. I think the number of women might be visual product placement. Not that they didn’t qualify for their positions...just an observation of how very many women were on today’s coverage.

Per Johnson a lot of it was sensationalized. She said there were no separate bathrooms at nasa, said she was never treated unfairly.

Yeah, I thought that was a ridiculous thing to put in the movie. Jim Crow and separate bathrooms at Fedgov facilities were outlawed about 10 years before the time period the movie depicts.
