WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz flew home from Mexico Thursday, amid outrage over his trip during a crisis-level storm in Texas — explaining he was only chaperoning his daughters and their friends on the flight.

The Republican lawmaker was seen getting back on a plane to the US on Thursday afternoon and issued a statement explaining that was not on a vacation himself, but was accompanying his daughters on a flight to theirs.

I don’t think the “ planned in advance” story would fly.
School is closed due to the weather.....not vacation. He says his kids wanted a vacation with friends because their house lost power & schools are closed. His wife was with them so, unless she’s disabled or whatever, his good dad as chaperone doesn’t work either.

Poor Ted, he REALLY needed that vacation. Gotta look out for #1, even if he’s a politician and this is the second biggest news story in the world after the disaster itself.

Cruz should have visited and supported a U.S. destination, rather than Mexico.

I admit that I keep trying to get myself to actually like him after his stunt at the convention, but he just won’t stop giving me reasons not to. This kind of move spills over onto other Republicans and makes the party look TOTALLY OUT TOUCH, which has always been a problem for Republicans, and which Trump was finally making some progress in fixing. But all down the drain now...

I’m praying my washing machine in the garage doesn’t bust open, the knobs were frozen stiff when I left and couldn’t shut one off.

Don’t know the vintage of your house or the type of water pipes installed. Some of the newer homes with PEX plastic tubing (usually red or blue) can apparently tolerate some freezing. Traditional copper tubing, not so much.

As a last resort, you can shut off your water main where it enters the house. Usually there is a hose bib or faucet located above the shutoff which can then be connected to a garden hose to drain the water from the lines.

A burst water pipe under pressure can really be a nightmare.

Did the left cry when the leaders of states defied their own travel bans and left their states over the holdays/ Or the leaders who moved their parents from nursing homes and ordered covid patients into the and face death?

Unless he is responsible for converting 25% + of Texas’s power to unreliable green garbage then who cares what he does. He is not responsible for this mess, and he does not have a lot of say in doing anything other than voting for aid packages for disaster relief.

Built in the mid 80s, it’s all copper. I had a bathtub knob break and was spraying, disaster barely avoided. This time I can barely check on the place. Probably stuck away for awhile now.

There is another thread on FR wherein he just got done telling everyone to stay home a few days ago or last week. Guess he feels okay to ignore the guidance he is giving everyone else. Lyn’ Ted only cares about himself. Again, he should be run out of office if he cannot show enough self-respect to resign and let Abbott appoint a credible replacement.

What the Truck does Ted being in Cancun or Abbott being on Mars have to do with this? Why are we participating in the dem narratives?

How the eff long did a Cuomo get away with being a celebrated celeb while his nursing home murder spree went unreported and (still) unpunished?

But Cruz is in Cancun?!? Now that’s the story I want to hear more about.

Typical dem playbook:

Bad thing happens (Covid, Katrina, Storm, whatever)

Drive fear and loathing and great bad thing as never having happened ever before.

Use bad thing to drive agenda (turn Texas blue)

Blame and focus on Republicans as if they caused bad thing to happen.

Filter out counter narratives and just blame GOP.

No matter how far fetched the blame theory, push it snd drive the agenda.

Oh yeah, and rely on useful idiots to help you push the outrage.

“ Where are all the Republicans in Texas? Why aren’t they stomping up and down and Biden and Harris about a lack of Federal response?”

They are not there. They say nothing about the wall, border, language, illegal immigration, posisitve covid cases coming in, nothing

Actually they wimp out on everything. Look at Cruz now he’s blaming his daughters

Where is W pitching in like a statesman should?

They do nothing but bash Trump

Abbott? Where is he? He fired ERCOT. ok. Where was he when he knew they were incompetent. Where was he when he knew a quarter of Texas energy was wingman, incapable of working under these circumstances.

Wait til they find death and destruction after this.

If this is no big deal, why’s he coming back early? He could probably kill Trump and there’d be supporters though.

The better solution is to make the low-info understand that the media is feeding them the “optics,” and not to be so gullible. The Deep State thrives on gullible people. Hence, 2020.

Thank God! At last!!! All is lost in Texas if politicians don't show up for photo ops.

Even politicians who have absolutely nothing to do with whatever emergency response efforts are appropriate.

Start taking names. No one who does not show up for a Texas freeze photo op should even dream of running for president in the future.

The Left almost NEVER criticizes its own crazy Congresspeople, whatever they do.

God forbid, he’d miss his vacation. Well, he’s already on the way back it looks.. I’m crying that he might not get all the sun he needed.
