I know it’s not the same thing, but the general idea out there (outside this echo chamber) is that it’s like if Rudy went on vacation a few days after 9/11. A lot of people don’t realize this means senator beto, and possibly a cascade of Reps getting ditched in TX.
And since you’re not a US Senator no one could accuse you of dereliction of duty.
(If you were a Senator from Florida and decided to take a trip to France when a hurricane was striking I’d likewise be scorned and rightfully so.)

I live in a retirement community of about 400. I know of one death in my neighborhood so far.

It’s not just twitter. Cruz is done for this. No chance he can get elected now and last time is was depressingly close.
He can volunteer to help with the humanitarian crisis, coordinate supporters and staff to connect constituents to churches and charities, all kinds of things. People are freezing to death
If this costs less than half a trillion to fix, especially with the tons of ruined houses/apartments from the flooding, it’ll be amazing. It’s not ‘just a storm’. It’s a one in a lifetime catastrophe. Nothing like this has ever hit outside of the coast. This is half the state this time.
