You’d get fired from 7-11 probably for leaving in the middle of a disaster unless your life was at risk. His clearly is not.

The death toll will probably be about a hundred. IMO. Not even Nursing Homes were spared.

Which is absolutely terrible. I will not make light of what you are going through and pray that things improve quickly. This IS a disaster. I just don’t think it is the greatest disaster in Texas’ history. Stay well down there and God Bless Texas!

As others have posted, what exactly was Cruz supposed to do? For all intents and purposes, he lives in Washington, D.C., not Texas.

Exactly. Disaster recovery is a function of the EXECUTIVE branch, local, state and federal. The legislative branch has no role except if an emergency appropriations bill were to be brought before congress. And in that case, Cruz would need to be in DC, not Texas. And I’m sure if he needed to vote on appropriations bill or other emergency aid, he’d be back in DC in hours.

Have all Texas judges in their judicial branch cancelled trips too? The judiciary can hand out candles like the legislative I suppose. Maybe they can rule the storm unconstitutional. I don’t know.

The media is NEVER our friend....ever. No sense worrying about optics when they will crucify you no matter what you do. Better we understand the specific roles set out for our different branches of government. We seem, even on our side, to have lost sight of that.

You are talking about the storage of natural gas liquids like propane and butane which is stored in tanks or salt domes. This is not the same as storing methane which is the natural gas fuel used in power generation and residential consumer use. Methane is stored underground in depleted oil and gas reservoirs. I agree that money is wasted on the green energy fantasy and that money would be better used improving the infrastructure of proven, efficient fuels like natural gas and nuclear.

Ted should know how this would look from a political perspective. Not a smart move on his part.

I don’t know how it works in Texas, but here in Alaska, the governor and the state legislature is responsible for state affairs.
Our Senators, Turdkowki and Sullivan don’t have anything to do with it.

Natural gas can and is stored above ground, granted not as abundantly the underground caverns afford the industry but it is done and is a common practice . From what I found out the compressors used for extraction used to be powered by natural gas but were switched over to electric for”green house” gases...I think this just added insult to injury as far as keeping the lights on.

optics my A$$$$

In my younger days I worked for a political candidate who said those exact words to me.

He got _crushed_ in the general election.

“This is a top-down massive failure”

Does this mean that you think a US Senator is part of his state’s government? And that like the state Governor he can do something about the power emergency?

When California catches fire or has an earthquake I can’t remember once caring if Feinstein, Boxer, Kamala Harris, or Alex Padilla stuck around to watch. Senators just get in the way, they haven’t got any say in running their home state government.

It seems like all of Twitter and half of Freeperdom have no idea how government works.

I believe that happens a lot to politicians......maybe in his case he got crushed because he did his job poorly

Much of what a senator does is via telephone. I have it on reasonably good authority that there are actually telephones in Mexico. The alternative, of course, would be to remain in TX, posing outdoors for photo ops. And, just out of curiosity, where was Beto the Great, and all the dem reps from Texas?

Beto was out handing out stuff. No joke. There’s no excuse for this stuff.
