One Washington state woman is dead and another faces murder charges in an incident involving a political sign.
It happened in Mount Vernon, Washington on Saturday night. The Skagit County Sheriff's Office was called to a home on Big Lake Road about 5:25 p.m. for a report of a fight.
A second call came in a few minutes later with a man reporting that his friend had been shot.
Deputies found a 32-year-old woman dead in the driveway when they arrived at the home. The couple that lives there came out and spoke to the deputies, according to a news release.
Investigators say the victim and shooter didn't know each other but they determined that the incident began over the theft of a political sign.
Police did not release information about the sign but other residents, reacting to the crime on a local message board, say the woman had a Trump sign in the yard and the victim tried to take it.
55-year-old Angela Marie Conijn was booked into the county jail on 2nd-degree murder charges. It was unclear if she had a lawyer who could speak on her behalf.
A 58-year-old man, who was reported to be Conijn's husband, was arrested on assault charges.
Police did not release the name of the victim. They said the investigation was ongoing.

Hoping there is more to the story- I don’t approve of theft but you can’t shoot someone for simply stealing. You have to believe your life is in danger.
A bunch of bad decisions were made by all involved.
I suspect there’s repeated thefts and threats involved.
This is what non-lethal devices are made for. Rubber bullets or rock salt is what would be best if you have to shoot to protect your property.
I will wait for both sides to have a chance to tell their side of the story before jumping to a conclusion.

I grew up in Mount Vernon Washington. I know Angela‘s family. One of nine children, very nice Catholic upbringing. Father is an attorney several of her siblings are attorneys. But a lot of the kids, and I say kids who are in their 50s, have had lots of problems. Very sad for the parents. I’m sure it’s very hard for Angela as well.

“The 58-year-old male who owns the residence goes out there to find out what’s going on, got into a confrontation with the driver of the suspect vehicle – ended up being a fight over the political sign that the male in the vehicle was trying to steal,” Clark said.
According to court documents, the men both told deputies they got into a physical fight. The homeowner said he was chased back to the house, but the driver said he punched the homeowner through the open window of their truck.
Cohee was with the driver and got out of the car. Clark said the homeowner’s wife came out with a gun.
”The 55-year-old wife came out of the house, fired several rounds and the female that got out of the truck, out of that vehicle that was there, was struck and killed,” Clark said.
