A Democratic congressman accused Donald Trump in a federal lawsuit on Tuesday of inciting the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and of conspiring with his lawyer and extremist groups to try to prevent the Senate from certifying the results of the presidential election he lost to Joe Biden.
The lawsuit from Mississippi's Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, is part of an expected wave of litigation over the Jan. 6 riot and is believed to be the first filed by a member of Congress.
It seeks unspecified punitive and compensatory damages.

In a statement to Y’all Politics, Thompson sides with the rioters, justifying their acts in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a Minneapolis man who died after a police officer appears to have used unreasonable force to restrain the man. Floyd is black and the now former police officer, who has been charged with murder and manslaughter, is white.
“Protesters in Minneapolis and across the country are employing their constitutional right of free speech and the right to assemble,” Thomspon said. “We are witnessing the expected result of African-Americans being brutalized and dehumanized for centuries. The police have historically tortured and murdered African-Americans at a disproportionate rate—usually with no consequence. Riots are destructive, dangerous, and scary – but can lead to serious social reforms.”
I think if he were sued using his own rules, he'd lose.
They’re pulling the same stuff they pulled with OJ. He is found not guilty, so they sue in civil court, which doesn’t have such strict proof criteria. But in this case it would be harder because there’s is not case. It’s all political. That doesn’t work very well with juries.
Gee, I wonder if he’ll have “standing” to file the suit.
