William Shakespeare, thou hast been getting canceled.
An increasing number of woke teachers are refusing to study the Bard — accusing his classic works of promoting “misogyny, racism, homophobia, classism, anti-Semitism, and misogynoir.”
A slew of English literature teachers told the School Library Journal (SLJ) how they were ditching the likes of “Hamlet,” “Macbeth” and “Romeo and Juliet” to instead “make room for modern, diverse, and inclusive voices.”
“Shakespeare was a tool used to ‘civilize’ Black and brown people in England’s empire,” insisted Shakespeare scholar Ayanna Thompson, a professor of English at Arizona State University.

Shakespeare actually wrote Macbeth for King James...The king was in to witchcraft; the play has witches. The king’s ancestors were Scottish; the play’s characters are Scots. The king had a short attention span; the play is Shakespeare’s shortest. The Gunpowder Plot, which took place on King James’ watch is alluded to in the play’s plot, as it depicts the overthrow of a king.

I second that sentiment. The beauty of Shakespeare’s language is almost miraculous. His God-given genius has been a constant source of delight to me since I was first exposed to it.

All of these assertions about the supposed homosexuality of historical figures is the result of imposing current values (one’s that I do not share) on the past... without any recourse to objective history and/or textual analysis.
Anyone “could have been.” Seeing historical figures through the modern lens, particularly given the leftist slant, is pointless at best. Was Jesus married? Was Quetzalcoatl a Phoenician?
We know so little about William Shakespeare of Stratford. There’s a lively bunch who don’t think he could write anything other than his own name, and he wasn’t very good at that.
In any event, I don’t know why they’d bother to cancel him today, scarcely anyone under 50 can even name a play by Shakespeare.
One of the most troubling things going on in the classroom today is the removal of historic context. Today’s “sensibilities” are used to judge people of the past. This is as old as the story of the Garden of Eden, where the serpent questions the Divine’s [past] pronouncements about the fruit of the tree of knowledge (”Surely God has not said...”). Eve’s misinterpretation of God’s original statement (she adds to it, saying God’s command included not touching) invites the challenge to what was said [in the past] and, so, our history was effectively rewritten.

Yes, and that Satanic influence is incredibly pervasive today. Shakespeare’s plays are a “humanizing” influence on those who read them.
My wife and I have been reading a recent book (not Shakespeare related, but its themes help to explain the current academic environment, and attempts to cancel literature and all products of the Western genius)... “The Devil and Karl Marx”, by Paul Kengor. I recommend it highly.
Marx’s circle of “friends” (it’s debatable that he ever had a true friend... he turned on everyone who was close to him in the bitterest ways) gave us “modernity” and the “academy” that we’re facing at the moment.
Kengor cites numerous examples from Marx’s own writings which illustrate clearly his devotion to Satan. Frankly it is a horrifying read.
What jumped out at me recently are the writings of one of Marx’s university pals; Ludwig Feuerbach, who developed the “new criticism” which attacked the authenticity of scripture - a mainstay in modern academia - and sadly of far too many seminaries.
We haven’t gotten too far into the book, but thus far, it has been worth the read.

I guess I spent too much time studying Faulkner. Yes, that’s the ticket. Faulkner.
They hate the white English language, they hate to think, they hate to think that they can learn something from a dead white guy, they hate the beauty, they hate to think there is anything above them... they are lazy and resentful.
I never heard that insanity was a requirement to be an educator. Must have missed that memo. These people are just mentally ill, and that’s the best I could say about them. Anyone who would leave their kids under the influence of nuts like this should be held criminally liable.
