In the early 2000s, Texas power companies had been planning to build 11 coal-burning plants, but nixed the plans after protests erupted.
If those new plants can actually trap their carbon farts, that’s great news for greenhouses and dry ice manufacturers.
I’m in Dayton/Centerville with no power outages...so far.
Best case would be Abbott goes without heat for a night, freezes his butt off, and decides to go on the warpath...
Wow, surprising number of outages in KY, which normally has a power surplus, or at least it did in the past. Maybe their ice storm was worse in some areas than what I’ve heard?
I am in Xenia, so pretty close by. Most likely a weather related outage. It’s ugly out there.
Got more ice than snow.
Go Green, That’s the answer!!!/s
Three years ago our energy company closed 3 oil supplied electric generation plants. Sure, they were old and probably needed to be replaced, but the company didn’t replace them.
“We have plenty of generation capacity even with retiring these facilities”
Today, they announced rolling blackouts.
Didn’t take long for gropey joe to turn the United States into North Venezuela.
Gasoline prices are up almost .50 a gallon since the election.
Rolling blackouts not just in CA, since they’ve (leftists in and out of the government) have been working to turn CA into a 3rd world hell-hole, have now moved to the mid-west and TX. By adopting unreliable energy sources, while moving away from reliable sources, will cost many lives.
Funny how you don’t hear about all the people who die in Europe every year from the cold, and the media will be hiding that information in the US now...

17 States under one wholesale electric distributor.
I read an article about it last night and the first thing that came to mind was; every State should be energy independent. Several small nuke reactors would do it.
Why should my electric be metered here in MO because it’s cold in TX?
Yeah, we have been. An item appears on our ballot and if passed by the dumbasses who have been persuaded the item is the be all end all, then it comes around for a second time in the next (s)election. If it passes the second time-—BOOM! It’s added to the Nevada Revised Statutes. IIRC the fidiots wrote it so that by 2035 half the utilitites must be renewable and by 2050 all must be. No mention of the consequences for not meeting the goals. Of course we have things like this to look forward to:
SMDH! Sadly, no one(those in power) will learn from the blizzard in the central/south US yesterday and today.
The worst might be to come.
I’ll be almost impossible to turn everyone back on. Every house will want to heat for hours when power is restored. They almost have to turn them on one at a time, cannot turn on an entire block as the local area fuse will blow/trip.
I think that a state constitutional amendments should follow something similar to the federal form. The amendment should get a 2/3 vote in each house of the legislature, followed by a ratification referendum in which you need a majority yes vote in each of 3/4 of the state’s counties for the amendment to be considered ratified.
Yup. For Texas, this is basically a once-in-a-lifetime event. The gas generators in Texas are only getting 60% of the gas they need, so the output is substantially decreased. It’s gradually warming up over the next couple of days, but it’s going to take a while to stabilize the availability of power.
You sure did!
And here it is - I keep watching the Ring of Fire for stuff.
Historically the Spring is the most active period for EQs.
I remember one utility company in particular that had good rates and they would advertise that they used clean coal technology. I can’t remember the name of the company off hand. Of course, that was before Obummer.
There are 100 year old houses here in TX with basically no insulation. That’s probably not the case in MO. From what I understand, you can lose practically the entire electrical grid if you try to keep it running when the demand far exceeds the supply. Voltage drops, amp draw increases and things blow up or catch on fire. Then you have an even bigger problem.
