**Press Release**
Shooting Incident at the Speedway
On Thursday, February 11, 2021, at approximately 5:30PM, The Loris Police Department responded to 5370 Broad Street in the City of Loris in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival Officers located a white male approximately 32 years of age laying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper torso unresponsive and officers immediately performed CPR until EMS arrived on scene. EMS transported the unresponsive male to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
After speaking to many witnesses on scene it was determined that this incident stemmed from what appeared to be a road rage incident that spilled into the parking lot of the speedway.
It appeared that a truck pulled to the gas pumps with another pickup truck following closely behind. The first pickup truck stops at a gas pump and the second pickup truck stops behind it and a white male steps out the pickup truck with what appeared to be a knife and approached the first pickup truck. The white male with the knife opens the door of the first pickup truck and the driver fired one round striking the male with the knife in self-defense.
The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by The Loris Police Department.
The Loris Police Department is committed to making the community a safer place to live and is working hard to accomplish this goal. It is critical that residents partner with The Loris Police Department and report any and all suspicious activity. Anyone having information related to this incident is encouraged to contact The Loris Police Department at 843-756-4000 and ask for Detective Stevens.
Loris is a tiny town in SC on the way to the beach from NC. It is known for speed traps and a great Beach Music station, WVCO-FM 94.9, a 5KW FM station with a nice web presence.

WVCO has moved its studios to Myrtle Beach, but the transmitter/antenna is still in Loris.

BTW, if you do not know what Carolina Beach Music is, be prepared for something completely different from surfing music. The movie “Shag” with Phoebe Cates is all about the sub-culture in southeastern colleges.
There. Y’all be edubacated now.
It is a very small community near Myrtle Beach. This area suffered so much damage from the 2015 flood and Hurricane Matthew there was talk of the town no longer being incorporated. This area has had several violent incidents recently, which is surprising because of the size of the town.
Doesn’t matter what I drive, that is a non-sequitur.
My whole point is that these tiny men in big trucks like to start fights and provoke on the interstates.
I see it daily in my work commutes.
They speed, cut people off, brake-check, and ride people’s bumpers. And it’s almost always some dummy in a truck doing it.
It’s why I have dash cams, tinted windows, and multiple guns in my car.
Loris is about 5 miles from Tabor City. I work out of Loris. I stop at that convenience store regularly. This is the first I’ve heard of this incident. Crazy.
Maybe there is still a chalk outline by the gas pumps......
Drugs and/or alcohol involved? Should have done toxicological studies on the parties involved. Would definitely allow a better understanding of events.
From what I’ve seen, those trucks are not the working man trucks, but rather the pickups young men use for their daily driver, outfitted with stacks, oversized wheels and low profile tires (which don’t really make sense on a truck).
DON’T BRING A KNIFE TO A GUN FIGHT...........
I REPEAT..............
Why does this artie make a big deal over the decedent’s skin color?
I assumed this took place at the Darlington race track.
Anyway, I am glad the violent Road Rage perp has received his just earthly reward.
I’m a big man (and an old man) with a big truck. I know that an armed society is a polite society. So I’m relatively polite. I’ll put up with a bit of guff until someone pulls a weapon on me. Then all bets are off.
Speedway Gas... I thought it was at Daytona...
My first thought was Indy.
That does sound like a good idea.
Lot’s of people sitting in front of a computer these days due to the Chinese virus. (Or in our case, because it’s -11 windchill factor.)
Perhaps a group of retired school teachers.
I’ll start on my own posts:
“Lot’s” should be “Lots”.
There’s a lot of folks on the roads out there that are not on their medication.
This is why I drive in the slow lane going 5 mph above the speed limit. I’ve pretty much seen it all on the roads.
Having dash cams can save folks a lot of hassle. I highly recommend getting a front and rear one.
I’ve seen a dude get out of his truck and approach a guy in a car at a red light. The guy in the car rolled his window down and pulled a pistol and shoved it in his face. That guy got so scared he fell on his butt in the median and just stayed there staring at space. He’s lucky.
Yes I agree with that.
I have very very rarely seen a run down truck involved in one of these confrontations.
It’s usually some shined up and cleanly waxed truck that causes mayhem on the roads.
I drive in the slow lane and they still wanna play with me using those tactics.
I know what you mean about the especially prideful boys in pickup trucks. Some of the girls are doing it, too.
It’s good to have a rear camera and a headset for the phone to catch them tailgating for the highway patrol. I like using a truck for a job once in a while, but there’s no reason to drive like that. The folks commuting in trucks for style over substance will be meeting those Biden gas prices before long.
The working portion of the map link takes the viewer to a spot in Iran about 80 miles west of Afghanistan. There doesn’t appear to be a hotbed of surfing going on anywhere nearby and good luck with finding a studio broadcasting beach music.
